It is with heavy hearts that we announce, as a result of the orders of the Provincial Government due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the cancellation of all summer camp bookings at our main site for this upcoming season.

We Are SO Close to a New Health Centre
|
|
Thanks to generous donations from foundations and individuals, we are that much closer to replacing our aging Health Centre. This will be an
innovative zero building
meaning zero toxins, zero waste and zero carbon. More than that, the Health Centre will sequester more carbon than it took to build it in the first place! From earthen plaster, to strawbale and hempcrete (materials that all sequester carbon), the Centre will showcase the very best in regenerative building design. A type of construction concept that is needed now more than ever!
|
|
The impact of the COVID-19 has shown, that now more than ever, Camp Kawartha needs a new, modern health care facility to look after the health needs of its campers, staff and visitors.
Groups, agencies and individuals have stepped up to give, or to make a pledge to give, and so we have $225,000 of the $375,000 needed. We are getting close!
And you can help close the gap!
If you are interested in donating or learning more about our building plans and it’s many environmentally-friendly features, please contact our Executive Director, Jacob Rodenburg (

2021 - A Year of Celebrations
|
|
Although the world is still immersed in 2020 and all that it has brought, we here at the Camp are planning for our hundred year celebrations. There are many wonderful plans in the making and we’ll let you know more about them in the coming months.
We are busy gathering stories and photos from each decade and these will be posted on our website. There are fascinating stories with a persistent theme -
Camp Kawartha has been profoundly meaningful for those who were fortunate enough to attend.
They say camp experiences are among their most memorable and enduring.
|
|
Like so many other places, the Camp is in a holding pattern, and unfortunately, has been since December. The education labour disruption meant that school field trips were cancelled. Then the COVID-19 pandemic began. It is eerily quiet – we miss the excited chatter of visitors enjoying the outdoors.
However, we continue to move forward. Plans are advancing for the 3-Sisters Gardens – Abby’s Memorial Garden with its focus on natural habitats and pollination; the shoreline gardens with their focus on naturalization; and the parking lot garden producing healthy organic food.
|
|
These areas are fantastic teaching spaces that provide children, youth and adults with hands-on experiences and knowledge of how we can live regeneratively, creating spaces where both people and nature can thrive.
Discussions have also been started about
building community gardens for seniors
at the Environment Centre. These measured plots of land will allow those who love gardening and its benefits to have a space to express and enjoy themselves – dirty hands aren’t just for kids!
If you are interested in these garden developments, please contact Susan at
philanthropy@campkawartha.ca
and she can tell you more about each project.
We welcome a donation of seeds, saplings or even funds that will allow us to purchase those items we need to complete each garden.

Kinder-campers proudly plant some annuals to fill the space in Abby's Garden until perennials can be purchased. Here they stand next to a box which will hold a pond.

Camp Kawartha is celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2021!
We want to give you, our Alumni, Staff, Campers and Families, the opportunity to
design the official Summer Camp Centennial T-shirt
!
We are looking for a design that best encapsulates what one hundred years of summer camp means to you. Something that is fresh, engaging and relays our incredible heritage.

Animal Showcase:
Spring Peeper
Frog
|
|
May is a month when your eyes as well as your ears are engaged. Flowers bloom providing vibrant colour, birds are returning, other animals have woken from slumber and are visiting us once more. It seems too that every animal, insect or bird seems to be talking with one another.
One such creature that always attracts attention with its voice is the Spring Peeper Frog. This tiny frog (about the size of a dollar coin) may be a dull brown colour with a darker toned X on its back, but its voice is one of those that stands out among its peers.
