Foothill Family Shelter's Monthly Newsletter
May 2021
Greetings!
What a difference a year can make! Although the state of California is not completely open yet, we are excited to let you know that we are and have been in full operation! We have kept each other as safe as possible – staff, volunteers and clients. And we have learned to celebrate each family’s success in a new way!

In May, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. Each mom will receive a special basket of recognition. Our “moms” face daily challenges that most of us will never face. They are SUPERSTARS and we will make sure they understand how far they have come from the struggles that brought them to Foothill Family Shelter.

Also in May, we will hold our "Let the Good Times Roll" Signature Gala Online Auction. We have been provided with some outstanding auction items which you can bid on via Facebook starting May 20th. You can help us continue our work by bidding in the auction and supporting our fundraiser. Watch for the Facebook posts and e-mail announcements inviting you to see the prizes and bid. It is lots of fun and if you are the highest bidder, you will have not only bought something special, but will have made a lasting impact on families in need. The dollars raised will help us keep our commitment to assist homeless families living in our shelter and in our community.

The pandemic has not stopped us and with your support, we will finish our fiscal year on June 30th financially strong and ready to help homeless families find their way to a better way of life and a place they can call home.

We are ever grateful for your commitment to helping us carry out our mission.

With much gratitude and appreciation,

Bonnie Cole

Thank you for believing in our mission.
120-Day Housing Program Snapshot
Our 120-Day Housing Program is designed to provide assistance and support to families trying to break the cycle of homelessness. Each family stays in a furnished two-bedroom apartment with no charge for rent and utilities. Residents are required to save a minimum of 50% of their income in a trust account and engage in our wraparound services: case management, therapy, and employment services to ensure they develop the proper tools for a sustainable and independent future.

In the 120-Day Program, each family receives over...
$500 of professional direct services (counseling & case management)
$600 of food and household supplies
$2,000 per month in free rent and utilities
On average, clients save over $2,500 in the 120-Day Program!
"Let the Good Times Roll" Gala
"Let the Good Times Roll" Online Auction starts Thursday, May 20th!

Our Online Auction starts Thursday, May 20th on our Facebook page. We have something for everyone so invite your friends to participate and get ready for some friendly bidding wars!
Your "Let the Good Times Roll" monetary donations will ensure we have the financial resources to continue serving our clients in the best way possible. Any amount donated helps improve the odds of families experiencing homelessness!
Change for Change Results
We exceeded our goal for Change for Change!
Thank you everyone who contributed to our Change for Change campaign. We surpassed our goal! These funds will be critical in carrying out our mission, serving those in need, and changing lives.

Message from Raquel, our Volunteer Coordinator:
The month of April was definitely one to remember. As we were running low on donations, donors and volunteers helped us get through with creating their own drives or even providing donations to help maintain our pantry. This was extremely helpful for our pantry inventory.

In addition, this month we celebrated a whole week dedicated to our volunteers for National Volunteer Appreciation Week. We appreciate our volunteers for dedicating their time to us even during an unfortunate pandemic to help our mission. Without the support of our volunteers, we would not be as successful. We thank and appreciate our volunteers for all they do!

Pantry Makeover
Last month, we received the most special gift...a pantry makeover from a professional organizer! The process was overwhelming, exciting, and challenging all in one. After two full Saturdays of work, the pantry was finally completed and the results were dramatic!

All of this wouldn't have been possible without Elva and her team at Sensational Organizing. We also want to thank our Volunteer Coordinator, Raquel and our Help Desk Coordinator, Yelitza for their efforts in planning and carrying out this project. Thank you so much for your time, skills, and dedication to this project. The new functionality of our pantry will allow us to more efficiently serve our families and community.
Help Desk Happenings
Message from Yelitza, our Help Desk Coordinator:
As we gear up for “Let the Good Times Roll,” this is the perfect chance to highlight the importance of supporting one of our community resources- our Help Desk! We are equipped to help meet the needs of homeless & low-income individuals and families in our service area and our statistics show we provide assistance to over 175 families each month. Our ability to impact the community is largely in part due to our donors that have helped keep our shelves stocked. Whether it was through monetary or in-kind donations, we have received generous support to enable us to continue serving but there is still a need!

If you would like to get involved and help secure the future of our Help Desk services, please consider making a monetary donation or supporting our Food Drive on Saturday May, 22nd.
Pantry donations are accepted during our business hours (Tuesday-Friday from 9am-12pm and 1-5pm). For any questions related to donations, please call our office at (909) 920-0453 or e-mail yelitza@foothillfamilyshelter.org.
