Recruiting Performers for Our Annual Talent Show

AZA United is thrilled to announce plans for our 3rd Annual Spectrum of Dreams talent showcase, a community event to celebrate the unique gifts and hard work of the autism community! We invite anyone on the autism spectrum ages 7 and up to apply to perform in the talent show. That includes children, teens and adults!

Our goal is to create an entertaining and impactful experience that will leave the audience with a better appreciation for the spectrum of dreams in our community. Filling out the interest form below is the first step in the process. Once confirmed, all participants will have the opportunity to work with a performance coach to rehearse their act and prepare for the showcase. Participants do NOT need to be AZA clients.

We are open to any talents or skills that can be shown to an audience on a stage, and we know the uniqueness of the autism community means there will be many unique talents. Whether it’s music, dance, storytelling, magic, gymnastics, or something entirely original, we want to see what makes you shine. This year, we are excited to share that performers may participate as solo acts or as part of a duet or trio.

We will also have an option for visual artists to showcase their talents in the lobby before/after the show and during intermission. Visual artist applications will open in July.

If you or your child would like to showcase a talent, complete this interest form.

We will contact you to discuss next steps. We look forward to connecting!

Abbett Family Foundation Supports New Program

We are thrilled to share that AZA United has received a $75,000 grant from The Abbett Family Foundation to support the expansion of Teen & Adult Services with the development of a new Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program. VR is a state & federally funded service to help people with disabilities obtain employment, and we are excited to develop a specialized model for individuals with autism entering the workforce!

Funding from the Abbett Family Foundation will help AZA United create the necessary infrastructure to support teens and adults ages 14+ in preparing for, securing, and maintaining meaningful employment. The grant will support program development, staff training, and system-building efforts as we work toward launching the program within the next year.

We are deeply grateful to the Abbett Family Foundation for their continued partnership as we expand services across Arizona!

New Blog: How to Best Use a Communication Device

Difficulty with social communication is a core characteristic of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Many individuals who experience challenges using spoken language rely on Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) to support some or all their communication needs. AAC supports are highly individualized and are typically selected following a comprehensive evaluation with a licensed speech-language pathologist.

AAC can take many forms, including small electronic devices, often tablets, that generate speech. When implemented thoughtfully and supported consistently, AAC has been shown to improve functional communication and, in some cases, increase spoken language. Most importantly, AAC provides individuals with a reliable way to express themselves, connect with others, and participate meaningfully in daily life.

New: Build and Belong LEGO Club

Build and Belong Club is a monthly LEGO®‑based social group in Prescott, welcoming neurodivergent participants of all ages from across the Tri‑City area, including Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Dewey‑Humboldt, and nearby communities. Each session offers a blend of open free‑build time and optional guided LEGO activities, creating a relaxed, supportive environment where participants can explore creativity, strengthen problem‑solving skills, and build connections at their own pace. The club is intentionally inclusive and strengths‑based, honoring different communication styles, interests, and ways of engaging.

Two groups: one for children and one for adults that will run simultaneously, allowing families and individuals to participate in a way that feels most comfortable. Build and Belong Club is offered by AZA United in collaboration with Polara Health and the Prescott Public Library, partners committed to fostering community connection, accessibility, and lifelong learning. Together, we aim to provide a welcoming space where participants don’t just build with LEGO bricks, they build confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging.
