Program Feature: Teens Visit Dover Motor Speedway

Fifteen teens from our Talley Middle School program had the opportunity to visit the Dover Motor Speedway on race day in partnership with NASCAR and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Attendees visited the media and officials booths, toured the medical center, and saw the pits and cars up close. They finished their day in a VIP booth to watch the race where they enjoyed a buffet lunch and met racing legend Richard Petty. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was provided to students who completed the BGCA Science of Speed curriculum. This Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) training helped members explore various careers fields in connection with jobs in the NASCAR industry.

Club Activity: Annual College Planning Conference a Success

Focused on helping teens pay for college, our annual college planning

conference brings together schools, experts and future students to

help prepare them for the journey ahead. Over a dozen schools and

programs were present to answer questions and connect with

prospective students about their offerings. The event featured sessions focused on Financial Aid/SEED Scholarships, The College Admissions Process, Paying for college, and Work-Based Learning. Keynote speaker and COO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, Jon Tucker, spoke about the bright futures ahead of each student, while County Executive Matt Myer encouraged students on their college journey.
