Every year when the weather starts to warm up in the spring time we enter what we call in the shelter world "kitten season." Kitten season is when outside unaltered female cats go into heat and start having litters of kittens.

We agree that kittens are super cute. But, the unfortunate thing is that every year around this time we start seeing a large amount of kittens coming into the shelter. This sudden overload of kittens quickly fills our cages and stretches our staff's ability to care for the number of animals. This is where our amazing community members come into the picture as fosters. Kitten season is when the Humane Society most needs foster homes. Fostering saves the lives of kittens by allowing them to have a safe place to stay until they are healthy and old enough to be spayed/neutered and adopted out into loving homes. We are currently recruiting kitten fosters. If you thought about being a super hero but don't want to bother with spandex outfits, capes, or pesky flying. Look no further than the Humane Society. We are here to help and fulfill all your cape crusading desires without much hassle. 

We are currently recruiting kitten fosters to help with the kittens coming into our shelter. You may ask what exactly a foster does? Well I am here to help. A foster provides a home for a kitten(s) for a short and temporary amount of time. The shelter provides you all the supplies (food, bowls, medicine, etc.) and covers all medical treatment if needed. While you have the kitten(s) you must promise to snuggle and love on them. And then when the kittens are old enough to be spayed/neutered you return them to the shelter to be adopted.  

One of the great things about fosters is not only are they saving lives by sheltering kittens in need, but they provide key information about the kittens. Such as temperament, likes/dislikes, etc. This allows us to place the kittens into the best fit of a home. Meet Sierra...

If you are a fan of potatoes then Sierra may be the girl for you. This little chunk is a 12 year old spayed female kitty. Don't be fooled by her age, this gal can still live a long and healthy life! Sierra gets along okay with other laid back cats, but would probably not do the best with dogs. She can take a moment to warm up (like all good potatoes), but once she does, she really seems to enjoy hanging out with her people and getting lots of head pets. She would probably do best in an adult home and with older children who can respect her space as she adjusts to all the recent changes in her life. 6th Annual---Woofstock

We are gearing up for our animal-tastic fundraiser Woofstock!!! This year the event will be bigger and better than ever before. We are expecting 100+ vendors, animal demos, live music, bunny yoga, mega-raffles, wine and beer vendors, children's activities, pet adoptions and animal rescue groups, Reptile Invasion, and much much more.

This family friendly event is free to attend and being held at the Ag Center from 12-5 PM on June 18th. Please your furry friends (children welcome too) and come on out to raise money for our animals.

The Humane Society loves the community support we receive. We often have students or groups reaching out to ask how they can best help us and the animals in our care.

Katie Martin, is an ambassador for Girl Scout Troop 2226. She is working on her Gold Award and chose the Humane Society to be the recipient of her hard work. Katie is working on her project called "Pavers for Puppies." She is helping us create an outside yard space for the dogs that is paved. This will allow the dogs a space to run and play in the colder months that will keep their paws dry. The space will also be easily cleaned and disinfected to help prevent the spread of any illnesses in our dog population.
