Just when you thought things may have become a little easier...
The biggest post-COVID19 trend? We’re seeing, as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently announced, a return to SAT scores being required for admission. This was the norm pre-pandemic. As many students had limited access to testing facilities and faced exam cancellations due to Covid, there was a national shift to test-optional to address these issues. For most colleges, this meant your SAT score was not required as part of your application but would be considered if you submitted it. A few elite schools like Middlebury College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Fairfield University, have however shifted their philosophy and no longer require or recommend SAT scores be part of their admissions process, but that is not the norm. Point being, don’t discount the SAT as a factor going forward.
May is a busy month! Juniors should know where they will be applying this Fall. Ten colleges, at most, is my suggestion as that lines up with the FAFSA. Now is the time to formulate your application strategy based on deadlines for each school and determine what, if any, additional essays or other materials are required for each.
As the saying goes, there are "a lot of moving parts" when it comes to the application process. But, you don't have to go it alone. The earlier you start, the better.
