Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers.My mother taught me that there is always a solution to any problem. Don’t focus on the problem and freeze; rather, look for solutions and find one or two that will and can work. Then, fix the problem.
What do solar professionals think about the disruption in the US solar market?
• Only 50% of renewables respondents expect to meet revenue targets, and just 43% are optimistic about profits, down from 75% and 67% three years ago.
• 39% expect their organization to increase capital investment in the coming year, down from 55% in 2023.
• Still, 67% of renewables respondents remain optimistic about growth.
You would think that at Unicorn Solar, we would feel there is weakness in the market. Instead, we immediately went to Asia, met with several suppliers, and found a solution.
Initially, that involves communicating with Asian government representatives and learning their thoughts about the tariffs and whether they can find a solution. Indonesia, along with Laos and Myanmar, has the lowest tariffs in Asia.
Next, we set a plan for splitting the initial 10% tariff between the manufacturers and Unicorn Solar so we can at least mitigate some of the tariff cost. Then, we will work with a country that can negotiate with the Trump administration and find a fair solution. Sitting back and watching is not an option, as companies can keep moving forward, but they must partner with companies that can solve problems.
