2023-2024 Village Budget Adopted
On April 24th, the Village Board adopted the 2023-2024 Village Budget. The adopted budget will be the first budget in more than a decade with no increase to the property tax rate. This budget is the cumulative work of the Village Board, Village Manager and Village staff, who held numerous meetings and work sessions over the last month to review the tentative budget.
Total appropriations for the general fund are $20,765,240, which represents an increase of $1,543,193 over last year's general fund budget. However, a combination of three items allows for the property tax rate to remain flat this year: a forecasted increase in non-tax revenues, use of fund balance, and an increase in the assessed valuation of property within the village. The adopted budget is in compliance with the Village's Debt Policy, as well as the Village’s Fund Balance Policy.
This year’s capital budget includes, among other items, the purchase of a new ladder truck for the fire department, a $1.2 million investment in general road and sidewalk repairs, and multiple upgrades to the Municipal Building. Included in the adopted budget is a 4% water rate increase to cover operating costs for the water supply and distribution system. Sewer rates will remain flat for the second consecutive year. As both the water and sewer funds are self-sustaining, they must bring in sufficient revenues to cover their operating costs each year.

Village to switch from CodeRED to Everbridge Emergency Notification System
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is upgrading emergency notification systems from the current CodeRED to the more efficient and state-of-the-art Everbridge notification system. The Everbridge notification system will go online Monday, May 8, 2023 and will allow residents to receive time-sensitive messages about severe weather alerts, hazardous environmental issues, and potential dangerous events in progress. In addition to emergency response, Everbridge will be used to provide businesses and residents with important notifications regarding power outages, street closures and water utility maintenance. Residents can select multiple delivery methods such as phone, text message, and email. All Village residents are encouraged to register to receive emergency alerts. Please note: if you were a previous subscriber to the Village Emergency Alerts through CodeRED, your contact information has already been moved to Everbridge, however, we recommend that you register an account with Everbridge to ensure that your contact information is up to date and so that you can take advantage of Everbridge's full features. The Village will no longer use CodeRED to send notifications after May 31, 2023.

Sustainability Committee Secures EV Charger Grant
Through the efforts of Croton’s Sustainability Committee, the Village recently secured a $149,266.78 grant from the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to install 12 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports (and the infrastructure for another dozen) at the Croton-Harmon train station. The chargers will be installed below the solar canopies being erected over the western part of the lot. Each port will provide about 20 miles of charge every hour, offering up to 200 miles of charge during the workday, more than enough to “top off” most EV batteries. The first two years of charging will be free, paid by the DEC grant to encourage purchase and use of EVs instead of gasoline-fueled cars. The chargers are expected to be installed in Winter or Spring of 2024. The wiring and conduits will be installed to allow for expansion to 24 charging ports to meet future demand.

Croton-on-Hudson held their first volunteer cleanup of the year - volunteers picked up 13 bags of trash, 1 tire, and about 150 pounds of garbage from the wetlands near the Croton-Harmon Train Station Parking Lot. Village Plants New Trees for Arbor Day
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson held its annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 28th. Six trees - two kousa dogwoods, one shadbush, and three flowering crabapple trees were planted at various locations on Grand Street, Veterans Corner, and Duck Pond Park. Croton-on-Hudson has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation since 1984 for its ongoing commitment to planting, maintaining, and managing public trees.

Projects include Gyotaku Fish Prints, Origami Birds of the Hudson, Clay Wind Chimes, Driftwood Sculpture, Faux Stained Glass, Portraits, Mandalas & Hudson River Plein Air Painting. This program will be held indoors and outdoors at our waterfront park. Students will use the nature around us, including the beautiful Hudson River as inspiration to create and explore. Croton Recreation Photo ID Cards / Park Passes are required for entrance into Senasqua Park, Mayo's Landing, Black Rock Park / Black Rock Dog Park and Silver Lake Park, and for activities such as Pavilion Rental, Facility Reservations, and Golf at Hudson National. The garbage schedule for this holiday week is as follows: If you are normally scheduled for pickup on Monday, your garbage will be picked up Tuesday, May 30th. If you are normally scheduled for pickup on Tuesday, your garbage will be picked up Wednesday, May 31st. There will be no metal pick up during this week.
