May 2013, Newsletter
In This Issue
Greetings!

This coming month is truly filled with a number of fantastic events that speak to the scientist, art collector, parent and business networker in each of us.  There are a variety of opportunities to connect with local business owners and operators, and at our May Luncheon you will learn how to capitalize on the current economic trends of our neighborhood and city.  Take advantage of one of the educational programs at the Burke Museum or Jack Straw, or lend a hand in this year's U District Clean Up Day.

This Newsletter also features information for the much anticipated 44th annual U District StreetFair.  We hope you'll join us to celebrate creativity and community on University Way NE (The Ave). It is an energetic and exciting two day celebration that offers music on three stages, two international food courts and hundreds of arts and crafts booths. Added to the mix are local businesses and nonprofit community booths to make this truly a community event.  Visit our updated StreetFair website to peruse the vendors, food offerings, and entertainment schedule.

We look forward to seeing you out and about in the U District!

Janet Farness
             Featuring Janet Farness
                 of the Seattle Times

              "Close Up on 98105"

Janet Farness, strategic research director for The Seattle Times, will present the high level economic trends for the Puget Sound Region and, in addition, will zero in on the geographies near and dear to the University District Chamber's membership.  She will share who lives here compared with the greater Seattle metro and what's happening with various business categories. Additionally, she will provide some extracts from the Seattle Market Review -- the monthly e-newsletter from her department -- that focus on development and "dirt moving" in and around 98105.

A Stanford grad, Janet Farness is currently the Strategic Research Director at The Seattle Times. She guides a department of accomplished researchers who provide strategic research and marketing and media consulting throughout the company and on behalf of local businesses.
