On April 22 nd , MCCC Parent Leader Brian Loch served as a panelist for the Minneapolis screening of the documentary film  FOSTER . The film interweaves first-hand stories of those navigating the child protection system with insights from social workers, lawyers, and other advocates to offer a realistic but hopeful perspective on a community that needs society’s support.

Brian brought to the panel his viewpoint as a birth parent who has successfully navigated the system, having advocated for and gained custody of his child. MCCC’s Parent Leadership program supports and empowers parents like Brian to share their stories in communities and within systems to advance family-centered policies and practices statewide.

MCCC received a Community Innovation Grant from the Headwaters Foundation for Justice! For this project, MCCC will partner with Hmong community leaders in the Twin Cities to raise awareness of how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and intergenerational traumas have affected the welfare of Hmong individuals and the Hmong community. This project will increase collective understanding of the ACE Study and to begin to generate ideas for promoting healing and resiliency in the Hmong community.
