May - This Month's Focus is on Life Changes

H/PG Chamber is partnering with Virginia Credit Union to bring a Financial Literacy Platform to our members and their teams. Monthly tips - with additional programing coming soon.

Life Changes - When Times Get Tough

Life changes can impact your finances in big ways. This month’s bundle and webinar teach you how to rebuild or adjust your budget, so it fits your new normal.

Talking about finances with Aging Parents can feel uncomfortable, but it’s one of the most important conversations families can have. Approaching the topic with empathy, respect, and preparation can help ensure everyone’s wishes are understood and future decisions are made with confidence. You can find ways to help the conversation Here.

Member Appreciation Social

We're still smiling after an incredible Membership Appreciation Social at Good Ship Brewing & Eatery! Amazing turnout and even better people—what an incredible evening!

Take a look at the video below!

The April Lunch featured insight on how CCWA is providing valuable training for area businesses.

Business professionals from a wide range of industries came together for meaningful conversation, valuable insights, and strong networking.

Our speaker, John McGarry, Coordinator of Trades and Construction, Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA), shared highlights of the many workforce programs they offer, with a special focus on the Apartment Maintenance Certificate program. No matter the industry, attendees found real value in the information and discussion.

Thank you to Dana Newcomer, Associate VP, Workforce Credential Attainment, and David Leonard, Workforce Development Director, Virginia's Gateway Region and CCWA, who were also in attendance.

A special thank you to Buffy Holloman from BG Staffng, for sponsoring this month’s lunch. BG Staffing supports apartment communities with staffing solutions across all roles—from grounds crews to property managers, and from temporary placements to long‑term hires.

Great connections, great conversation, and great opportunities ahead!

Tommy Neal, Randolph Market

 Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

During our Chamber Member Appreciation Social at Good Ship Brewing & Eatery, the Chamber was honored to recognize Tommy Neal of Randolph Market with a Lifetime Achievement Award, subtitled “Building a Family Business and Serving the Community.”

As a second-generation owner, Tommy spent more than 30 years providing steadfast leadership as co-owner of Randolph Market—supporting local small businesses, navigating workforce challenges, and adapting to ever‑changing customer needs. He later guided the successful transition of the business to the next generation, ensuring its legacy would continue.

Beyond the business itself, Tommy truly knew his customers. He built meaningful relationships, learned our names (and our children’s names), and showed up for our community through births, losses, holidays, and every kind of gathering in between.

On behalf of the Chamber and the entire community, we sincerely thank Tommy for his years of service, kindness, and lasting impact.

We wish him all the best in a well‑deserved retirement.

Scott Kelley, President & CEO of Service Center Metals Recognized

Entrepreneurial Excellence Award

Scott was honored for the vision and grit to do something bold—growing a U.S. aluminum business right here in Prince George County, VA. They have been a member since the beginning,

Scott then "passed the torch" of Entrepreneurialship in the region to Donnie and Mariah Barber, owners of the Good Ship Brewing & Eatery

In recognition of SCM and their powerful “Can Do” motto, the Chamber is excited to memorialize this spirit by calling out chamber and community members with a “Can Do” when they demonstrate extraordinary dedication, resourcefulness, leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and innovation.

Congratulations, Scott and the entire Service Center Metals team—the best is yet to come!
