Dear Friends and Supporters of Saint John's:

My first few weeks as Saint John’s CEO have been nothing short of amazing!
I am continually and overwhelmingly impressed with this program and the personalization of the services we deliver to the women and the children we serve.

There are so many parts to the equation that make the wheels at Saint John’s turn, and the more I learn, the more admiration I have for what Saint John’s has accomplished since its inception. I am especially touched by the professionalism, the love, the compassion and the sincerity of our staff, especially during these trying times.

We continue to be virus-free, thanks to the diligent hand washing, campus scrubbing (three times daily), sheltering in place and social distancing in effect. We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support from our community through both the Support the Red Door and BDOG fundraising campaigns (details below!). THANK YOU!

As you can imagine, we look forward to reopening our restaurants, rescheduling our events and welcoming our volunteers and visitors back to our campuses as soon as it’s safe to do so! We will reach out to you with updates as new information becomes available. Thank you so much for being by our side, now and always, and I look forward to meeting you personally, hopefully sometime soon!

CEO

Mother’s Day at Saint John’s was recognized and celebrated in grand fashion this year, thanks to a delicious brunch provided by Ettore’s Bakery and Café, and to the beautiful gifts delivered by Shine with Purpose for each of our moms to enjoy! Last but certainly not least, our Saint John’s kids made beautiful handmade cards for their moms! We are so proud of our moms who are working hard to become the best mothers they can be!
Big Day of Giving Brings Big Support to
Saint John’s!
Big Day of Giving, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s annual 24-hour fundraising event, raised a record $12M in support of 615 of our region’s nonprofits on May 7, with $67,739 of those funds donated directly to Saint John’s! With the financial implications so many organizations are suffering now due to the pandemic, this funding comes at a critical time for all, including Saint John’s! Thank you so much for your support!

Support the Red Door Nears 67% of Goal

Saint John’s has suffered significant financial implications as a result of COVID-19. With the cancellation or postponement of multiple fundraising events, the closing of our campuses to the more than 450 volunteers who support our organization with 1650 hours monthly, the closing of our two restaurants and our catering business, Plates Café and Catering and Plates Midtown, and our increased food, utilities and supplies expenses with more than 200 women and children sheltering in place 24/7, we are facing a deficit of up to $150,000 per month that is quickly escalating.

While we have reached out to our local, state and federal agencies for assistance, we are simultaneously reaching out to the community to help us keep our doors open and our services in tact during this difficult time.

Thank you so much to those who have already donated to our  Support the Red Door  fundraising campaign to help address this deficit! We have raised nearly $300,000 from nearly 800 donors, representing 67% of our goal to raise $450,000 by June 30!

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1. Make a Financial Donation
Now, more than ever, we are in need of support from our community partners to help us through this unexpected crisis. Your monetary gift will allow us to continue to provide critical services for formerly homeless women and children.

2. Create Your Own Fundraiser
Creating a fundraising page is a free and easy way to help Saint John's! Set a goal, enlist your family and friends, and watch your fundraising thermometer rise! This is a fun effort that will have a huge impact!

3. Support our Immediate Needs
If you'd like to donate items, the best and safest way to do so would be to visit our Amazon Wish List available on our website.

The Sound of Optimism

Diagnosed with Hepatitis C, Virginia C. was seriously ill and unable to work effectively at her job as a property manager, a position she had held successfully for over 10 years. She was laid off from work, and the result was the loss of her home, severe depression and excessive drinking.

Read here about Virginia’s transformation, with her Medical Office Administration certificate now earned as she begins her new life.
Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!

Four more of our women are becoming essential workers! Congratulations to Kim W . and Allyson H. for being hired at Amazon, to Shellee H. on her new job at AM/PM Minimart, and to Kashae H. for her position at Aim Higher doing in-home care. We are so proud of you!
Virtual Volunteers!

While we desperately miss the 450+ volunteers who contribute 1650 volunteer hours per month to Saint John’s, we are o verwhelmed by the creative ways so many of you have continued to volunteer and provide services to Saint John’s! This includes:
