We are thrilled to honor our 2023 graduate, Brittany! Brittany, her family, and her teachers have worked tirelessly to successfully navigate the complexity of autism and reach this exciting milestone. Brittany has been at Avondale House since elementary school, and is transitioning to our adult day program this summer. She has made huge strides through her time at Avondale House, and we are so proud of her. Congratulations, Brittany!

Adult Day Program Update

With the state mandated transition from Day Habilitation services to Individualized Skills and Socialization, Avondale House has made some changes to our Adult Day Program. We continue to provide a small staff to client ratio and are enhancing our community-based instruction program. In April, the Texas Health and Human Services Department surveyed our Adult Day Program for licensing for the new Individualized Skills and Socialization (ISS) program. As a result of these surveys, both ISS locations were recommended for licensure with no citations.  

Run, Walk or Bike for Avondale House!

Bike to the Beach, the ride from Houston to Galveston, TX in support of individuals with autism and disABILITIES is happening on October 14, 2023! If you are interested in cycling 25, 50 or 100 miles with Team Avondale House, we'd love to have you join us this year and pedal for a purpose!



Are you interested in participating in the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon or the We Are Houston 5K in 2024? Registration is now open. The marathon weekend of events is happening on January 13 and 14, 2024.

Now is the perfect time to get one of these events on your calendar and begin planning your training.

Recap: Community Based Outing to Bitty and Beau's

The day school recently went on a community based outing (CBI) to Bitty and Beau's a new local coffee shop that employees individuals with disabilities. Make sure to check out the shop for great coffee, chats with their employees and a sweet pick-me-up.

CBIs are educational instructions in naturally occurring environments that provide real life experiences and interactions with members of the community. Not only do CBIs provide a space for participants to practice their acquired skills within the community, but they also provide an opportunity for the public to learn about autism and the stigmas surrounding the disorder that have long excluded this population from active community engagement. At these outings, our students practice self-help skills, learning how to manage challenging behavior in a variety of public settings. We have witnessed the benefits of CBIs because they enrich the lives of our participants and enhance their capabilities.

Congratulations to our May Team Member of the Month, Eric!

Eric is our Team Member of the Month, and serves as Direct Support for our adult day program. Eric was nominated for his dedication to the adults and work ethic. His colleague says, "Eric is always caring with the participants in the adult day program. He works hard every day in his position and is very loyal to his position". We are thankful to have such a committed employee that serves our adults so well. Congratulations, Eric!
