Kristen is a mother, a volunteer, and a Habitat homeowner. In November of 2000, she and her twin sons moved into their Habitat home in Cedar Rapids. Now, her boys are 25 and her mortgage is nearly paid. “I look at other people’s situations, and I’m so thankful for what I’ve been able to give my boys,” says Kristen. “Having that stability, being able to provide them with a home, that’s amazing. They got to grow up with the same neighborhood kids, they have the same friends they’ve always had.”
After completing her required 300 hours of sweat equity, Kristen has continued to volunteer through Habitat’s Development and Communications committee, helping to strategize and support fundraising and outreach efforts. “I enjoy the fact of giving back,” says Kristen, “and it means a lot to me to give back to Habitat because of everything I’ve gotten.”
