Bronx Children’s Museum

On Wednesday, May 3rd, Bronx Children’s Museum welcomed First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Bronx-native U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to its new facility. The special guests toured the award-winning space with newly appointed Executive Director Denise Rosario Adusei and met with students from the Museum’s GreenArts Afterschool Program at PS 55.

The visit began with a performance by the twelve second graders, who sang an original motivational song entitled “One Step." Adusei then led the guests on a tour through the Museum's Bronx-inspired exhibits, including The Waterways, where the children played with boats and bridges, as well as the brightly colored Casita, where they joined the children who were pretending to have a picnic featuring healthy foods harvested from the exhibit’s community garden next to the Casita.

On Monday, May 8th, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson along with the Bronx Tourism Council kicked off Bronx Week 2023 at the Museum. The press conference outlined the week's exciting activities and announced this year's Bronx Walk of Fame inductees. Congratulations to BxCM Board member and three-time Emmy Award-winning co-host of ABC’s The View Sunny Hostin and the inaugural People’s Choice Award Honoree C.S. 55 Principal Luis Torres!

Denise Rosario Adusei, BxCM's Executive Director, welcomed guests from the podium. She invited them to explore the Bronx-inspired exhibits throughout the space, exclaiming, "It's Bronx Week here [at the Museum], all year long."

Earth Day Highlights With The Bronx Is Reading & Long Island Sound Study

On Earth Day, the Museum had several eco-friendly activities on hand. At the entrance, the Long Island Sound Study guided visitors in making eelgrass tortillas with the Cornell Marine Program. The eelgrass tortillas will help restore LIS’ seagrass meadows in the estuary, an area where saltwater from the ocean mixes with fresh water from rivers draining from the land.

In the Boogie Down Block exhibit, Luz Maria Mack, in collaboration with The Bronx Is Reading, read The Secret of the Plátano. Our youngest readers were captivated by the story inspired by the Bronx author’s dream with her Abuela. Click here to watch News12 The Bronx’s coverage of the read-aloud.
