Preschool - Kindergarten News
Preschool Learns About the Butterfly

The Preschool classes learned the cycle of a butterfly first hand. Each class was given a cup containing caterpillars and their food. The children watched as their caterpillars ate and grew. Each of caterpillars then transformed into a chrysalis and hung from the top of the cup until they became beautiful butterflies.  Read More
Pet Week in Pre-Kindergarten

Both Pre-Kindergarten classes celebrated Pet Week. The students learned why some animals can be pets and other animals belong in the wild, the zoo, or on a farm. The children loved having their friends' pets visit us in class.
Swift Farms Visits Preschool through Kindergarten

What a great day the Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children had as our friends from Swift Farms came to visit CHP! Baby chicks, goats, lambs, and rabbits filled our courtyard. The children were able to hold the baby chicks and feed and pet the goats, lambs, and rabbits.  Read More

Poetry Day

Preschool through Kindergarten joined together in the multi-purpose room and amazed everyone with their beautiful poetry. Preschool and Prekindergarten recited at least two poems and Kindergarten recited four poems.The children were articulate, adorable, and poised as they stood in front of a room full of parents! Magic Bob
Laughter could be heard throughout our school today as the Preschool, Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes gathered together to enjoy the show presented by Magic Bob . He delighted us with amazing tricks and surprise visitors such as a beautiful dove and a very funny rabbit. The children were mesmerized as Magic Bob pulled fun objects from their ears. After the show, we were joined by two magician assistants who created a variety of balloon art including butterflies, flowers, and Disney characters.

First Grade Goes to Red Mill Museum

First Graders took a trip back in time when they toured the 19th century mill and quarry at the Red Mill Museum in Clinton. The students had lessons in the one room schoolhouse, were apprentices to a blacksmith, and learned how to write with a quill and ink.
First Grade's Personal Narratives

First Graders proudly shared their personal narratives with classmates and parents. They wrote their own stories after reading many examples from other great authors including Cynthia Rylant, Donald Crews, and last year’s First Graders. A personal narrative is a “true story about myself that’s memorable.”
Second Grade Celebrates Mother's Day

2nd Graders wrote beautiful poems to celebrate their moms for Mother’s Day. Each child wrote a five-lined poem, called a Cinquain Poem, to describe different attributes about their mothers. After writing the poems in Language Arts class, the children worked with Ms. Trusiani in Technology class to type and illustrate their poems.
Amazing Painted Lady Butterflies

After receiving just hatched caterpillars, 2nd Graders carefully observed each stage of the butterfly life cycle. They used hand magnifiers to view changes from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. The children also compared and contrasted the butterfly life cycle to that of a panda and a frog. Although sad to have the butterflies leave our classroom, the children were thrilled to watch the Painted Lady butterflies fly into their natural habitat!  Read More
Poetry Day in Grades 1 and 2

The children recited their memorized poems to their families and classmates. First Graders focused on poetry from throughout their curriculum, and Second graders focused on poems around themes of nature and the seasons. By reciting poetry, the children build public speaking skills and self confidence.
Third Grade's Poetry Day

On Wednesday May 1st, 3rd Graders participated in CHP’s annual Poetry Day celebration. The students memorized and recited poems by Jack Prelutsky. Afterwards, in our “3rd Grade Poetry Cafe," they shared with their parents their Poetry Portfolios. The students wrote diamantes, cinquains, limericks, haikus, autobiographical and acrostic poems.
Grade 3's Cinco de Mayo Lunch

Arranged by Sra. Pattani, their Spanish teacher, Third Graders celebrated Cinco de Mayo in their classroom. With Mariachi music playing in the background, students enjoyed freshly made cheese quesadillas, corn and bean salad, salsa, chips, guacamole, lemonade, and churros. The students had a lot of fun and enjoyed their Fiesta! Read More

Grade 3 Mystery Reader

Third Grade welcomed a mystery reader, Dr. Anastasia Bailey (Maya's mom), who read The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Dr. Seuss! Dr. Bailey was so animated when reading, the students were hanging on her every word! Thank you for coming in and taking us on a great adventure! Read More

Third Graders welcomed the last Mystery Reader for this academic year, Mrs. Hajar Shirley, Zahra's mom. She read a New York Times Best Seller and award-winning book, What Do You Do With an Idea?  This is a book for anyone who's ever had a big idea. Read More
Grade 4 Prepares for Mothers Day

During the week before Mother’s Day, Grade 4 was busy crafting gifts for their moms. Memory boxes were painted & decorated & coupons were carefully written...each promising to do something special for their moms. The gifts were then wrapped so that each mom would be surprised on their special day. Hope a happy day was had by all!
Grade 4 During Pre-Spring Concert

As Grade 4 gathered before taking their place on the Spring Concert stage, they had a photo-op moment. Congratulations Grade 4 on your wonderful performance!
Grade 4 Poetry Day

During CHP’s annual Poetry Day celebration, Grade 4 recited poetry that was reflective of the American landscape, from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the skyscrapers of our cities, from the early lamplighters to the postmasters and civil rights activists. During the second part of the program, the 4th graders shared their own original poems, inspired by various poetic formats and poets. Read More
Grade 4 French class Fête

Students in Grade 4 celebrated their Food Unit with the much awaited Fête, on Wednesday, May 29th. Students enjoyed tasting some of the popular French food. They listened to French Café accordion music while enjoying croissants, baguette with European butter, Boursin Cheese, and Brie. They also had Quiche and a salad. For Dessert they enjoyed Madeleines, Palmiers (Elephant ears) and salade de fruits.

Grade 8 Poetry Day

Students in Mrs. Nemiroff’s Room celebrated African poetry. 8th Graders made masks representing their poems and the African culture of their poets.
Grade 8 Pivotal and Google Trip

On Friday, May 17th, our 8th Grade students headed to Manhattan and experienced the real world by visiting two leading technology-based companies, Google and Pivotal. Our shout Out goes to Mr. Saurabh Gupta, a 7th-grade CHP Parent, who entirely coordinated and collaborated with both companies, and made possible this unique and very special opportunity for our students. We also Shout-Out to Mr. Clarke, an 8th-grade parent who chaperoned the kids.
Grade 8 "Lock In"

Grade Eight students enjoyed an evening of fun and games after exams on May 31st. The students got to expend their energy at Sky Zone and then come back to CHP to play some indoor games and relax.


Jr. Solar Sprint 2019

Jr. Solar Sprint 2019 took place at New Providence High School on Thursday, May 16, 2019. CHP entered three teams in the competition. Each team competed with a uniquely designed solar powered car. Of the fifteen races entered during the competition, the three teams collectively had five top four finishes: 1 first place finish, 2 second place finishes, 1 third place finish, and 1 fourth place finish.
2019 RoboCup Junior

“CHPS United” Robotics Team presented “Robot Idol” as part of the 2019 RoboCup Junior USA OnStage competition on May 19th. The competition (ages 12 – 19) integrates science, technology, engineering, and the arts. The students presented a two minute creative stage performance, including choreography, set design and construction, costume design, music, and video design. They used autonomous robots that they designed, built and programmed. Read More
Author Wendy Mass Visits CHP

On Friday, May 3, our students met Wendy Mass, a celebrated author whose work includes A Mango Shaped Space and The Willow Falls collection, Ms. Mass gave a presentation about how she became a writer and the journey of taking an idea and turning it into a story. Spring Concert

On May 9th, our community enjoyed CHP's 16th annual Spring Concert. Students in Preschool through 8th Grade sang and performed a variety of music, including songs in French and Spanish. Grades 1 and 2 performed with their Ukuleles. Grades 3 and 4 performed with their recorders. The event was a huge success!

Field Day

CHP’s Field Day was a huge success! There were fun games for the whole school including a soccer goal kick, basketball hoop shootout, football throw, and frisbee toss for Elementary and Middle School students, while Preschool through Kindergarten events included an obstacle course, water balloon toss, and a hopping ball race! Teacher Appreciation Dinner

Every member of the CHP staff is so appreciative of our wonderful PTO whose members serve as an amazing support system for our entire community.

In addition to all that the PTO does, they took the time to honor the
staff during Teacher Appreciation Week…hosting a delicious dinner at
the Imperia and presenting amazing gifts… including a projector, 2 digital remote screens, make-up for the women, and gift cards for the men.

Their generosity is beyond compare! Thank you to all of our PTO members!!!

Girls Volleyball

Our Girls' Volleyball Team was victorious with 2 out of 3 games played against Stuart Country Day School.

Summer Staff Birthdays
Cedar Hill Prep celebrated summer birthdays this month. Third graders took this opportunity to sing and present a card signed by the CHP staff to Ms. Rita, Ms. Selner, Mrs. Busby, Ms. Huber, Mrs. Chari and Mrs. Kane who are celebrating their birthdays in the months of July and August. We wish them a very Happy Birthday!
