News and Events for Larchmont Residents
From the Mayor

I’m sure you’ve all heard the news - May 19th is New York reopening day! (Well, with some exceptions… read here for all the details). Some of the eased restrictions are for vaccinated people – extra incentive to get the shot! Over 500,000 Westchester County residents have now received at least one vaccine dose, which is about 53%. This may seem low, but remember, roughly 20% of county residents are under 16 years of age and are not yet eligible. That may be changing soon with the FDA expected to approve the Pfizer vaccine for 12-15 year-olds next week. If you haven’t already got your shots, it is so easy now to get an appointment. Check here for local vaccine availability. Also, Westchester County is promoting Mother’s Day vaccinations at Westchester Community College. For those 18 and over, Moderna vaccines will be available from 11am-3pm on Saturday, May 8th. Appointments are encouraged (https://on.ny.gov/3gJdD5B), but walk-ins are welcome.

The beautiful (mostly) spring weather has the downtown and parks buzzing! I hope everyone is enjoying the return of Down to Earth’s Larchmont Farmers Market on Saturdays! The Friends of Larchmont Parks is sponsoring free yoga led by Sound Movement in Constitution Park on Friday evenings. Visit Sound Movement to sign up. And another great sign of reopening - the Village summer concerts committee has planned for an all-day Larchmont Music Festival on Saturday, May 15 in Constitution Park! The day will be kicked off by the Chamber Orchestra of New York, playing Aaron Copeland's Appalachian Spring, followed by eight awesome local bands playing a variety of music genres. There's something for everyone! Since there are still COVID-related rules, we have crafted this event to have maximum outreach while still being safe, so everyone needs to have a free ticket. For more information you can view the Larchmont Music Festival Flyer. We hope this festival will become a new tradition for the village! And while planning is under way for Larchmont's fall season staples, like the Arts Festival and Larchmont/Big Truck Day, unfortunately we are not able to hold the annual Memorial Day parade this May. There will be events commemorating our fallen service men and women held at the various local VFW and American Legion posts.

On April 27, the Board of Trustees cut a red ribbon for Groove Family Music’s Sweet 16. This Saturday, May 8, stop by Mancino’s on Palmer to congratulate and thank them for 35 years in Larchmont! And while you’re in the neighborhood, pop in and say hello to The Velvet Maple, Larchmont’s newest shop and take a look at the art in shop windows for the Larchmont Arts on the Avenue (you can find more details in the Community section below). Watch out for the giant scissors traveling around downtown – we have several ribbon cuttings planned over the next month! Later this week, the Village will issue a press release and FAQs about the new meter parking which will have the “go-live” date and provide information about the new system. For now, the pay stations are not operational and meter fees do not have to be paid.

Wishing all my fellow moms a Happy Mother’s Day!

Best,
Mayor Lorraine Walsh

The Larchmont Environmental Committee would like to remind residents, landscapers, businesses, clubs, and houses of worship that for the health of our community and our earth, leaf blowers may only be used during April and from October 15 to December 15. Starting Saturday, May 1, leaf blowers will not be allowed again until mid October. Property owners, landscape company owners and crews are all subject to escalating fines for violations.
