CDO Workforce Participates in the Mayor's Welcome Reception for Oneonta Newcomers

On April 14th, Kathy DeAngelo, CDO Workforce Disability Resource Coordinator (DRC), and Alan Sessions, Project Excite and Rural Heathcare Grant Placement Coordinator, participated in the Inaugural Mayor's Welcome Reception for Newcomers to Oneonta, which was held at the Southside Mall in Oneonta. More than 30 vendors were present with over 125 individuals attending the event.

The event is part of Oneonta's Mayor Drnek initiative to bring 1,000 new residents into Oneonta. The population of the city is about 13,000 and 1,000 more residents will have a positive impact on the City and its businesses.

CDO Workforce provided information to attendees about CDO Workforce services, including the Disability Resource program, job bank and placement services, and Project Excite IT training funding.

Newly arrived residents appreciated the informational materials provided by CDO Workforce, especially information about the local labor market and training and funding opportunities.

Job Fair Success!

On April 12th, DOL Business Services Representative, Margo Burkett, and CDO Disability Resource Coordinator Kathy DeAngelo represented CDO Workforce at the Oneonta High School Job Fair.

This event was held in collaboration with the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce and coordinated with the Oneonta HS Work Base Learning Instructor, Tina Smith and a group of her students who served as hosts.

These students and their teacher visited our CDO Workforce center last month for a tour and presentation about our services to prepare for interacting with businesses at this event. 20+ local employers met with students from noon- 2 p.m. and then the Job Fair was opened to the public from 2:45 to 4 p.m.

Employers were pleased with the turnout and enthusiasm of the students--especially the fresh baked cookies they served us at the end of the day!!

For Businesses
Businesses: New York College Apprenticeship Network (NYCAN) Grant Can Help You Upskill Your Workforce

The Workforce Development Board of Herkimer, Madison & Oneida (WDB/HMO) has partnered with the NYCAN (NY College Apprenticeship Network) grant to reimburse on-the-job training costs for advanced manufacturing companies that have less than 50 employees and a registered apprentice program.

Wages can be reimbursed at 50% up to $25 an hour for six months of on-the-job training (OJT) with minimum paperwork.

The undirected funding provides many benefits for small to medium-sized manufacturing companies and ensures the apprentice is trained in accordance with the company’s standards and procedures.

If you would like to know how your company can take advantage of this funding or know of a company that would benefit, please contact Meghan McBennett at mmcbennett@working-solutions.org
