Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden Audio Tour Launch Event
We are excited to launch a free,
self-guided audio tour to accompany the Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden
at Hartwood Acres Park. This in-depth, guided experience is the first of its kind in any Allegheny County Park. Each sculpture comes to life through its own audio description, which can be enjoyed individually or as part of a complete self-guided tour of the entire collection.
Join us to celebrate the Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden on Thursday May 22, from 12:00-2:00 pm, and be the first to experience the collection in this new and exciting way! RSVP to Caitlin Harpster by May 15.

Parks Foundation Project Leaders Continuing Education
We’re proud to recognize Parks Foundation staff members, Nicole Oeler and Ron Schipani, for their attendance at the 2025 PA-DE ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture to continue their professional development and maintain their accreditations.
Nicole, who serves as the PA-DE ASLA Board Secretary and Education Committee Chair, and Ron are both committed to staying at the forefront of the field—bringing valuable knowledge and fresh perspectives back to our projects – making a lasting impact on your county parks!

Invasive Species Removal in South Park
On April 2, we hosted an invasive species removal in South Park with volunteers from NiSource Charitable Foundation and Columbia Gas. We extend a huge thank you to the Park Rangers for leading the event and to all the hard working volunteers who spent time making an impact in South Park. Together, we cleared over 800 square feet near the Vale of Cashmere, removing Asiatic Bittersweet, Privet, Japanese Barberry and Multiflora Rose.

Longvue Tree Planting
On April 11, we celebrated 75 years of the Longvue Acres Garden Club with a tree planting in North Park! With the help of amazing volunteers from Longvue and the leadership of the Allegheny County Park Rangers, 75 trees were planted – one tree for each year of the club’s incredible legacy. Trees planted included Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Chestnut Oak, White Pine, Chokecherry, Eastern Redbud, Black Birch, Shagbark Hickory, Hophornbeam and Witch-Hazel. Together, we made a lasting impact on North Park by repairing a known canopy gap and by decreasing the opportunity for invasive species to take root. We extend a huge thank you to the Longvue Acres Garden Club, our dedicated volunteers, and the Rangers for their efforts!

EQT Tree Planting in Boyce Park
On April 16, we teamed up with volunteers from EQT Corporation for a tree planting in Boyce Park! Together, we planted 60 trees including Yellow Birch, Shagbark Hickory, Hackberry, Eastern Redbud, White Pine, Chokecherry, several types of Oaks and Blackhaw Viburnum. These trees will help restore lost canopy and transform a once-mowed area into a thriving natural space. We are grateful for the Allegheny County Parks Rangers who led the event, to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for donating the trees and deer protection and to every volunteer who showed up ready to make a difference.

Help us continue to plant trees by donating to our Tree Fund!
Every year, the Allegheny County Parks Foundation plants trees in our county's nine parks in partnership with Allegheny County. Just this spring, we are planting over 500 trees in five different parks!
In addition to their majestic beauty, trees improve the parks’ ecology by increasing our region’s declining tree canopy, shoring up riparian borders to clean rainwater that flows into streams, help storm water management by absorbing runoff and provide shelter and food for birds and wildlife.
We invite you to donate to this reforestation and beautification program. You can use this gift as a way of memorializing a family member, friend or special memory of time spent in the Allegheny County Parks. Every donation has the added value of living on as a gift to our whole region.
