May Photo Contest

Participate in Calflora’s 8th Annual May Photo Contest! Your photos will automatically be entered if submitted as a Calflora plant observation by May 31st. Get out in May and take new photos of the spring bloom. You can also dust off and submit photos from your older analog collections by creating Calflora observations from them.

Q: Where do I upload my photos?

A: Participate by simply creating a Calflora observation. You can also upload existing plant photos here. We also made a video tutorial for you.

Q: How do I use photos from my phone for the contest?

A: Add them to Calflora here or use the Calflora phone app Observer Pro for Apple or Android. You may also load photos into Observer Pro after you've taken the photo.

Q: How do I use a non-phone camera to add photos?

A: Put your photos on your computer and add them here. Here is a video tutorial.

Q: May I add my bryophyte photos, too?

A: Yes, and this year there is a separate contest category for bryophytes. Here's more about bryophytes in Calflora.

Q: What if I don’t know the name of the plant?

A: Add photo(s) to Calflora as “unknown” or with the genus, then add it to Plant ID Help group.

Q: How many photos may I enter?

A: Unlimited: enter as many photos as you would like in one or both categories: bryophytes and vascular plants.

Q: How does voting work?

A: One "like" equals one vote. You must be signed in to Calflora to vote. You may vote on as many photos as you would like: one vote per photo. Last year's winner received over 200 votes.
