So All Children "May" Read!
May 2019

Reading shouldn't be a bore or a chore! In this blog by The Literacy Site, moms, dads, teachers, caregivers, and anyone interested in helping children read can pick up some wonderful tips to make reading more fun. As examples, the article cites engaging children through topic-related field trips, making reading more social, creating reading challenges and games, and being flexible with reading formats. It's almost here!!! DO MORE 24 -- the start of 24 hours of giving to our community! From noon on May 22 to noon on May 23, YOU can help put a book -- or several of them -- into the hands of deserving children from our Northern Virginia area!!!
Wait, wait! DO tell me!!!

In fact, you don't have to wait! Advance giving begins at noon on May 15, when the RIF of NOVA DO MORE 24 link goes live!!!

So what's it all about?

Do More 24 is the region's largest 24-hour online fundraiser powered by United Way of the National Capital Area.

What does 24 signify?

The actual campaign runs for 24 hours...from noon May 22 to noon on May 23.

But for those who can't wait?

Advance giving goes live on May 15!!! From noon on May 15 through noon on May 23, you can contribute to RIF of NOVA's literacy campaign.

How does it work?

Every $2.00 donated to RIF of NOVA = one book for a deserving elementary school child in the City of Alexandria and in Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William Counties.

Why give?

Literacy rates are falling. So when you give to RIF of NOVA, you are giving not only a book but an invitation to the joy of reading. One hundred percent -- 100 % -- of the monies raised go to supply books to the kids we serve!

How do I contribute?

The bottom line...

Last year, 2,000 kids were able to pick RIF of NOVA books, thanks to YOUR "Do More" generosity. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to DO MORE!
ACCA Child Development Center "Springs" into Books!

It was a RIF of NOVA celebration of springtime books at the ACCA Child Development Center in Annandale. The infant room teachers used a felt board display to tell the story Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See?, written and illustrated by Bill Martin, Jr. and Eric Carle. Older children heard The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, The Perfect Nest by Catherine Friend and illustrated by John Manders, and It’s Mine by Leo Lionni.
Leo Lionni's It's Mine tells the tale of three selfish frogs who finally learn that sharing is more fun!
Board member Chris McLaughlin (r) read The Hungry Caterpillar to ACCA children during the center's RIF of NOVA spring book distribution. ACCA children range in age from infants to five years.
