BSA Safety Moment
Youth Protection: Preventing Youth on Youth Abuse Training
Understanding and Preventing Youth-on-Youth Abuse for Unit Leaders and Staff, No. 430-149 was updated in late 2018 to include unit leaders (all positions) and staff. This new and broad approach is now appropriate for ALL staff – day camp, junior leader courses such as NYLT as well as seasonal camp staff.

According to Michael Johnson, the BSA’s Youth Protection Advisor, “expanding this important message to unit leaders, the BSA further reinforces the importance of being aware of youth-on-youth behavior in unit meetings, weekend outings and resident camp settings. By delivering this training to all unit leaders, a camp-wide atmosphere is created, where all persons in a leadership role can help address youth protection in a proactive manner.” Bullying, harassment, physical, mental and inappropriate behavior have no place in Scouting.

NCAP standards (RP-153) recommend this training be offered every session at camp . Click on these hy-perlinks for the facilitators guide and PowerPoint. Completing this training can be recorded in my.scouting training profile using code CS95.

Health & Safety Moment:
Incident Reporting Helps
So, a communicable disease has come to your camp. Now what? You should contact your Scout Executive and report the incident as soon as possible. Engaging with resources can help keep your camp from shutting down or offer you guidance if it does. Check out this safety moment for incident reporting, and also visit the how-to page here.
Submitting Eagle Scout Rank Applications

A simple step has been added to the process of preparing for Eagle Scout boards of review in our council. A completed Eagle application form must be submitted for confirmation of earned merit badges and other details by the council before a board of review may be held. Membership Card printing process
The BSA is committed to streamlining basic operations by putting tools in the hands of volunteers. For several years, individuals and unit key 3 have had access to print membership cards through my.Scouting. In addition, functionality was added to my.Scouting on January 1, 2019, to enable members of the unit key 3 to print their unit Charter Certificate.
This “self-service” functionality allows volunteers to print membership cards and the unit charter certificate in a timely manner and enhances the on-boarding experience for new youth and adults.
The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is only 8 months away. If you have not signed up there is still time but you must act soon. The requirements: you must be a registered member of Scouts BSA, you must be at least 14 years of age by July 22, 2019, you must be no older than 17 years of age on August 2, 2019. Meet these requirements and you too can be part of one of the truly life changing events offered by Scouting.
On July 22, 2019 young men and women, who belong to Scouting organizations in over 150 countries, will come together at The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, for two weeks of fun fellowship and Scouting. With opportunities for camaraderie with Scouts from around the world, the WSJ is a unique cultural immersion experience that supports the World Organization of the Scouting Movement’s mission to create global citizens and educate young people.
