MESSAGE FROM PASTOR VALERIA
|
|
May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Just like every day should be Earth Day, every month should be Mental Health Awareness Month!
The good news is, there is a growing awareness about mental health, and a better understanding that mental illnesses are real illnesses. And that people who suffer from them are not crazy or weak. Still, there is a lot of stigma attached to mental illnesses, and our mental health care system leaves much to be desired.
At Trinity Church, we have been trying to address this topic openly, in order to include and welcome all of God's children. Some of you may remember the book study we did on "Blessed Are the Crazy" several years ago. The ONA Team is currently working on a proposal for Trinity to become a "WISE" congregation ("WISE" stands for "Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, Engaged.")
The United Church of Christ offers worship resources for Mental Health Sunday on May 15. In the introduction, they write the following:
Does that sound familiar to you at all? Does it sound like a message that you have heard at Trinity repeatedly? I hope so! "God loves you and there's nothing you can do about it" is what we tell our teens when they are confirmed or baptized. Our mission statement is front and center to everything we do:
Trinity Church's mission is to fill its people with the love of God and share God's love in all the world.
Why do I preach that constantly? Why do we try to share that message on our website and social media presence? Because it's what we all need to hear, and experience. We need it for our spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being. And it's what God wants: for us to be well, and whole.
Can faith cure a serious mental illness? No. That's what therapy, in-patient treatment and medication are for. Can faith, and a faith community, help us better deal with mental illnesses? Yes. Knowing that we are loved and that we are not alone, knowing that there is nothing "wrong" with us, that it's not our fault, that we are not a burden, that our lives matter and that we are important and someone cares... That helps. It helps us stay balanced, grounded, and connected.
God's love has healing powers for us as individuals, for our families and communities, and for our entire world.
I believe that. I need to believe that.
At Trinity, we will keep doing everything we can to share that message with you, with Northborough, and with all the world.
May the power of God's love touch and heal you today, and every day.
With Love,
Pastor Valeria.

Hello Trinity Church Congregation and Community!
First I would like to extend a big thank you for the warm welcome I received on my first Sunday. After the worship and fellowship, I felt right at home. I am excited for the opportunities that God will bring us! My hope is to build as much musical life in our Worship and Community Engagement as possible.
To build toward that effort, we will be having a unique event that everyone can have a voice - both in singing and song choice!
On May 29th, everyone is invited to a Hymn Sing which will serve as the main portion of worship for that Sunday's service. It will be great to spend time singing & connecting with our favorite hymns from the Chalice Hymnal. We hope to have as many people there as possible!
If you would like to suggest a hymn for this event, suggestion forms will be available during Coffee Hour after Sunday morning services leading up to the 5th Sunday. You may also send your suggestions or questions to me via my church email: [email protected].
Until we meet again,
Scott Arnold

FROM THE SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM
|
|
Deeply moving and laugh out- loud- funny, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu share science-backed wisdom of how to live with joy in troubled times in Mission: JOY. These self -described mischievous brothers give a master class in how to create joy in a world that was never easy for them.
Join us on Sunday, May 22 at 5:00pm for pot luck dinner and a show in Fellowship Hall. The video is 90 minutes. This will also be available for watching via a “virtual screening room” May 22-24 but we would love to have you join us!

FROM THE BUILDING STUDY COMMITTEE
|
|
We had a wonderful turnout for the tour of the church and lunch at the beginning of April. It
seemed like everyone was seeing parts of the church building differently and thinking about
how it can be used.
We want to thank you for all the great suggestions you had for how we might be able to use the
church building. The suggestions ranged from renting the kitchen to people who want to try a
small bakery to renting small office spaces or pods; providing space for classes such as yoga,
quilting, book clubs; and providing a stage for small theater companies. The ideas were almost
endless. Thanks again for your input and help with this project.
We are finishing gathering information about the church building’s history and physical assets.
Soon, we will be reaching out to community members to get their input about how they
perceive our building and how it can be used by the community. After that, we will share
everything we have gathered with you, the congregation, before we put together our final
proposal.
As usual, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact any member of the
committee.

FROM OUR CHRISTIAN ED DIRECTOR
|
|
We continue our Trinity Tots program focused on getting our littlest community members and their parents and grandparents together for some fun, faith and socializing. This will be a monthly meet up going forward.
Spring is here and we are ready to turn the garden and get outside. The Christian Education team is looking forward to seeing our older kiddos and teens as we enjoy the nicer weather and more opportunities to get together.
|
|
We are in need of teachers and assistant teachers. Sherry preps all the material and sends it to teachers to preview before Sunday. If you can help please email her at [email protected] It is a wonderful way to spend some time with our youth and cultivate intergenerational relationships.

We live in a time of rapid, often unsettling change, inspiring mixed feelings of dread, anxiety, anticipation, and hope. The optimistic teachings of Bahá’u’lláh, founder of the Baha’i Faith, answer essential questions about the human condition and the relationships that bind us together. The Bahá’ís of Westborough are honored to share with you a glimpse of the spiritual teachings of our faith that inspire us to form deep and diverse relationships and to work to build communities that nurture the well-being of all. The program includes presentations, a Q&A session, followed by a spaghetti dinner with facilitated small group conversation.
You can let us know if you plan to attend and help us plan the dinner: CLICK HERE
This event is free of charge. Please share with your family and friends.
