Cub Scout Advancements

All advancements earned by Cub Scouts need to be reported. Now that the Cub program runs concurrently with each school year, this year's program will soon be over so don't break for the summer without reporting all advancements earned during this program year as Cubs will move to the next rank in September. In fact, Scouting America highly recommends that advancements be reported on a monthly basis.

Scouting America provides Scoutbook Plus for just this purpose. It provides many benefits in addition to being the official method for reporting advancements. However, if you are not familiar with this program, you can submit an advancement report to the Registrar, Anna Marie Pepper, at the Council Service Center, who will upload the information. Our Cubs deserve to have their achievements recognized not only on the Pack level, but also in their Scouting record.

Please contact the Tohickon Advancement Chair, Bob Cull, if you would like to know more or have questions about Scoutbook Plus. The Tohickon District volunteer members are available to support your unit.

Merit Badge Pamphlet downloads are now FREE!

After years of discussion, as of early May, ALL merit badge pamphlets can be downloaded for FREE from scouting.org. This is part of a broad effort to enhance the merit badge program with online resources. See the Digital Resource Guide (access through link below) to see some amazing Aviation Merit Badge content, with more to come. Indeed, two new merit badges are due to be announced soon, with ONLY online resources. This builds on the exciting Scouts BSA Test Lab (access through link below) where three prototype activities can be performed, and depending on popularity and feedback, may become official merit badges.

One caution…the pamphlet pdf’s were populated as-is from the current Scout Shop print files, and not all have been updated with the latest requirements. Always check Scouting.org for the latest requirements. (access through link below)

Regional Training Meetings

  • The training committee will hold Den Leader training meetings Friday, October 10 at Ockanickon Scout Reservation in Pipersville, PA and Saturday, November 1 at Fisher Middle School in Ewing, NJ.

CUB SCOUT PACK 169 EARNS THEIR FORENSICS BADGE

Detective Crusemire and Sergeant Hazelett were excited to share their forensic knowledge with Cub Scout Pack 169.

The Cub Scouts were engaged in learning how to dust fingerprints, make a mold of a footprint, secure a crime scene, and learned other investigative techniques. Based on their learning, the scouts secured the crime scene, photographed the scene, and recovered and processed evidence. Based on the evidence they processed; the Scouts were able to develop a lead and identify the suspect. Using one of our newly acquired drones, the scouts observed on a screen as Detective Crusemire piloted the drone through the building, room by room, until they finally located and apprehend the suspect - a cardboard cutout of a person.
