Perfect Day for Flying Kites
Our family-friendly Kite Day event was held Sunday, April 9 at River City Sportsplex. On a gorgeous and windy day, over 300 attended to fly kites, enjoy Kona Ice, face-painting, balloon twisting, and ride the PlayRVA train.

Survivor Speaks at Holocaust Remembrance Day

In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Virginia Holocaust Museum sponsored a survivor presentation at the Active Lifestyles location at Chesterfield Baptist Church on April 18. The speaker was Dr. Roger Loria, a emeritus professor at VCU's Medical College. His mother and he were left as sole survivors of his family.
New Garden Patio at Meadowdale Library

Our landscape and trades crew worked on a collaborative project with the Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Boulevard. Staff created a reading patio/garden outside the front entrance of the library. Pollinator plants and shrubs were added to the area. Future development may include a shade option and benches.
County's First Earth Day Festival Held
The inaugural Earth Day Festival was held on Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10300 Courthouse Road. This family-friendly event was presented by C-Fit Community to promote and encourage protecting the local environment. Over 500 attended and visited with 30 vendors.
Safety Signs Installed
at Park
New signs have been installed at Robious Landing Park to warn river users about the dangers of Bosher's Dam, which is approx. four miles downstream. The signage was prompted by the drowning of two local women who went over the dam last Memorial Day.
The mission is to keep everyone who goes on the river safe. People are encouraged to check river conditions and remain alert when on the water.
Echoes of Joy is May 6

The Echoes of Joy community event will be held on Saturday, May 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Ettrick Park, 20621 Woodpecker Road. This free event will feature health screenings, meals, giveaways, vendors, music and more. For additional information, contact Ericka Bynum.
All Abilities Fair

The annual All Abilities Fair will be held Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10300 Courthouse Road. Vendors will be present with information on indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities, art, music, sports, and more. The fair will promote opportunities for all ages and abilities in Chesterfield and surrounding areas. The event is free.

Time to Register for Summer Programs

The Summer Program Guide is available online and at our recreation centers. Make plans for an active summer with great options from parks and recreation.
Registration for summer activities is ongoing now.
Falling Creek Ironworks Annual Tour and Festival
Join the Falling Creek Ironworks Foundation for the annual tour and festival to learn about the history of the ironworks. New this year will be a celebration of the Falling Creek Distillery which was also operated at this site. The event will feature a beer garden, featuring craft beer and wine from Three Leg Run Brewery. Other activities include archaeology tours, exhibits, children's activities, music and concessions by Quinto Sol. Admission is free.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission

The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) will be held Thursday, May 4, 6 p.m. at the Community Development Building, 9800 Government Center Parkway.
