BRUCE RUSH
Dr. Bruce Rush, or Sensei Bruce as he is known to his Kids Kicking Cancer students, brings decades of experience to Kids Kicking Cancer, as a black belt and a clinical psychologist. Sensei Bruce worked closely with Rabbi G., the Founder and International Director of Kids Kicking Cancer , to start the California program in 2010. Sensei Bruce has been the California Program Director for Kids Kicking Cancer since that time, bringing the program to children and families in a variety of locations as a martial arts therapist. He currently teaches Kids Kicking Cancer classes at Children’s Hospital Orange County, Dawn Barnes Karate Kids , and at various workshops and events, as well as working individually with children in treatment.

Sensei Bruce was born and raised in New York. He attended and graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later moved to California, where he obtained M.A. and Psy.D. degrees in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University.

In addition to his work with Kids Kicking Cancer , Sensei Bruce is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology, where he teaches a course on interventions with children and adolescents, supervises doctoral students, and volunteers his time on dissertation committees. He also sees private clients, specializing in work with children, adolescents and families.

Sensei Bruce trains and supervises martial artists in the Kids Kicking Cancer curriculum. He also supervises Marriage Family Therapists who provide counseling, when asked, to children, adolescents and families participating in the Kids Kicking Cancer program.

When not working or teaching, Sensei Bruce enjoys spending time with family & friends.
Parent Testimonial
Before my kids attended KKC they were always sad and angry because they were watching their sister go through the battle with cancer. I started seeing growth in them as they started attending the class. They turned their fear to power. Also, KKC showed my family that they were thought of. I know a lot of the attention was on my daughter with cancer and the others may have felt left out. With KKC they weren't left out of anything. We gained a family with this program. I thank you Rabbi for starting this up and including us. I also thank every staff member and volunteer.
