Dr. Bruce Rush, or
Sensei Bruce
as he is known to his Kids Kicking Cancer students, brings decades of experience to
Kids Kicking Cancer,
as a black belt and a clinical psychologist. Sensei Bruce worked closely with
Rabbi G., the Founder and International Director of Kids Kicking Cancer
, to start the California program in 2010. Sensei Bruce has been the
California Program Director
for Kids Kicking Cancer since that time, bringing the program to children and families in a variety of locations as a martial arts therapist. He currently teaches Kids Kicking Cancer classes at
Children’s Hospital Orange County, Dawn Barnes Karate Kids
, and at various workshops and events, as well as working individually with children in treatment.
Sensei Bruce
was born and raised in New York. He attended and graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later moved to California, where he obtained M.A. and Psy.D. degrees in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University.
In addition to his work with
Kids Kicking Cancer
, Sensei Bruce is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology, where he teaches a course on interventions with children and adolescents, supervises doctoral students, and volunteers his time on dissertation committees. He also sees private clients, specializing in work with children, adolescents and families.
Sensei Bruce
trains and supervises martial artists in the
Kids Kicking Cancer
curriculum. He also supervises Marriage Family Therapists who provide counseling, when asked, to children, adolescents and families participating in the
Kids Kicking Cancer
program.
When not working or teaching, Sensei Bruce enjoys spending time with family & friends.
