CultureLink News

May 2023

Finding a job as a newcomer, though a very important part of the settlement journey and one of the first things to take care of, doesn't necessarily bring the much desired feeling of belonging. Its not until a community is found -friends and activities we love or learn to enjoy- that one starts to feel at home.

As a settlement agency, we want to make sure that newcomers have a wholesome experience in their new country. We offer opportunities to connect and socialize, and programs that include cycling, artistic activities and wellness workshops.

Toronto Newcomer Day 2023

Our team spent the day at Nathan Phillips Square talking to newcomers and sharing information on how we can help them feel more at home and connected to their community.

We are now reaching out to those who visited our booth and asked to find out more about us.

Every year, the City of Toronto hosts Newcomer Day, an event that welcomes newcomers and celebrates their contributions to the city through performances, activities and an information fair.

We have been participating on the fair for years, offering information about our programs and services.

Bike Hub's Giveaway

CultureLink's Bike Hub supports local cyclists and fosters a culture of repair and reuse.

During DIY hours, with the help of our experienced mechanics, visitors can learn how to repair their bikes or refurbish one of ours. That's right, we collect used bicycles to build new ones. Our staff and volunteers bring them back to life and give them to someone who needs them.

On Newcomer Day, six refurbished bikes from our Bike Hub were given to new Canadian families. Two adults and four kids will be enjoying riding around the city.

If you have a bike or parts that you don't need anymore, we accept donations!

CultureLink's Bike Hub is located at 15 Tobermory Drive in North York. Programs include DYI Hours, Earn a Bike and Bike to the Future. For more information, to register for our programs or to contact us, visit www.culturelink.ca/bike-hub/

On the Spotlight

Our Cybersecurity Training Program is back with in-person sessions!

Now a hybrid program, the first part of the training is happening at our main office and new groups start every month.

If you or someone you know is interested, information sessions are the best way to start. Visit our Cybersecurity Event Calendar for upcoming dates and register.

Have you heard about our Innovative Art Programming?

Many children and youth have participated on artistic projects led by experienced facilitators. A videography and social media program enriched their digital communications skills.

The latest project has participants drumming away and learning about the art and rhythms of African drums.
