Get Ready for Summer by Prioritizing Yourself and Managing Your Stress

As the semester winds down, make sure to take some time to check in with yourself and your stress levels and carve out some time for stress relieving activities, such as laughing with your kids or a friend, taking a walk in nature, reading a book for pleasure, enjoying a bubble bath, listening to soothing music, returning to a hobby, planning a summer vacation or stay-cation, etc.

The Wellness Team is here to support you. Utilize resources available through the university:

Healthy Habits Series

Practicing and maintaining healthy habits is challenging for many of us. Our lives are busy, and while we usually have the best of intentions, other commitments can get in the way of our lifestyle change efforts or even block them entirely. Thankfully, a variety of best practices exist and have been used to foster health and well-being through healthy habit implementation.

This 8-week series will offer a variety of perspectives and suggestions to maximize your ability to integrate healthy habits into your life. Four different speakers, who each have coaching, development and/or counseling backgrounds, will share their expertise with you. You will learn about the power of mindset, intention, emotional intelligence, and a step-by-step process that will foster healthy habits in your life.

Monthly Wellness Incentive recipients can earn a $100 Wellness Program Incentive in the General Wellness category for this series. Participants must attend at least 7 of the 8 sessions, including via the recordings, and attest to program completion in HCM by November 30.

Let's E.A.S.E. into the moments at hand with this practice-based, methods-centric program. Join Heidi Weiker for a 12-week series designed to harmonize our bodies, minds and hearts in order to be more fully present. Throughout the sessions, we'll:

  • Engage in quick, high-impact movement to dump distress and expand relaxation
  • Activate breathing more deeply to cultivate calm and focused energy
  • Savor moments and experiences to create peace and comfort
  • Elevate to lift us up in delight, strengths, and joy

Come find out how much moments matter in our lives as we E.A.S.E into them together.

21-Day Gratitude Challenge

Small consistent actions performed over 21 days can create a significant impact in our personal lives. When these actions are done in community with others, the impact ripples out even further. The Wellness Program Team invites you to join the CWRU 21-Day Gratitude Challenge, which encourages participants to engage in one small daily action to help you feel more grateful and experience the benefits of a regular gratitude practice.

Each day for three weeks, participants will be emailed a unique idea as a prompt to cultivate gratitude. Participants are encouraged to carry out the act and share stories of their experiences via our private online group feed on the Kind Spring platform. Posting on the online feed is optional, but you will need to create a Kind Spring account to join the challenge.

Register for Mindful Movement

Next Round of Mindful Movement

Mindful movement is a gentle, accessible approach to yoga that encourages people to tune into what they are feeling as they move and make choices based on their present moment embodied experience. In this 8-week series, Julie Schlemmer presents options for movement, and there is no priority placed on stretching more or holding positions for a longer period of time.

Participation in Mindful Movement can count toward earning a Wellness Program Incentive in the Physical Activity category. Visit our Physical Activity web page for additional details on how to earn this incentive.

Take a Walk Around Campus

Research has highlighted the significant health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle and sitting for most of the day. The weather warming up provides ample opportunities to get outside and take a walk around campus! Benefits from walking may include increased energy, decreased weight and a lower body mass index (BMI), decrease in waist circumference‌, and decreased risk for health conditions such as diabetes. Check out our campus walking maps to find a route that is the right distance for you.

Walking meetings with your team can help break up periods of prolonged sitting while still getting work done. View this PDF to learn about the benefits of walking meetings and learn tips for conducting a successful meeting on the move.
