Gifford Scholarship

The Gifford Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications. The Gifford Trust provides funds semi-annually “to be used for scholarship purposes”. According to the Trust agreement, candidates for the scholarship may meet one of the following criteria:

First Priority:  Members of First Presbyterian, Leesburg, who are active. By extension this may include children of active members if they (the children) attend college out of the area. However, they must be involved with a church where they attend college and must attend church regularly when they are back in the area.

Second Priority:  Candidates identified by the Presbytery of Central Florida.

Third Priority:  Candidates identified by outreach programs to local schools and colleges.

Scholarships may be awarded as follows:
  1. To attend a course of study or program at a structured educational institution. This may include any level from pre-school up through high school, college or post-graduate levels. Trade schools, vocational training and individual courses that enhance or support career growth are also included.
  2. For a course of study that is part of the recipients basic education or improves career opportunities.
  3. For a course of study that will provide some benefit to our church. This might be a course in lay leadership or directing the music programs of the church.

Gifford Scholarships are not appropriate for course of instruction taken for personal pleasure or to pursue a personal hobby.
