Minnie Homchowdhury is one of our newest teachers at Shakti and we're overjoyed to have her sharing her passion for health through strength & joy via movement arts.
Minnie is a BharataNatyam dancer settled in Austin. Her initial training in Indian Classical dance, started in India – under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty and Sri Kalamandalam Venkitt at Kalamandalam, Kolkata. Having completed her Arangetram at that Institute , she continued her learning as part of Kalamandalam’s Performing Troupe as well as a member of the Teaching Staff.
She has also trained under various other notable Gurus in the field of BharataNatyam such as Leela Samson, Ananda Shankar Jayanth, N Srikanth, Narendra Lakshmipathy and Bana Ramanath . She has also trained in Kathakali, with Sri V R Venkitt, in the Kerala Kalamandalam style. She is currently training in Kalaripayattu - an ancient Indian martial art form, under Annelize Machado.
She is an active member of the classical dance company, Stage Sanchaar- a unique collaboration of wide-ranged classical Indian Dancers and performs frequently with various Austin Classical dancers.
She has been involved in many solo and group collaborations, with an emphasis on children's education, and community building. Minnie enjoys her work with Austin Scottish Rite Theater where she combines her love for dance with children’s theater productions. She enjoys collaborative projects with other local Arts Groups such as Austin City Ballet and Penfold Theater. She is an active volunteer in the Austin Classical Music and Dance circles. Minnie has been passionate about Childrens' Theater and Arts since she was a young adult. She has taught dance to children and adults at various points of a life, for various causes. Minnie is a Committee Member and Volunteer coordinator for the Indian Classical Music Circle of Austin. www.icmca.org
She is also a Board Member of the Leap of Joy organization Leap of Joy.
Minnie is a long term employee of the Williamson County Technology Services Division in Georgetown, Texas.
