Mother's Day Thoughts...

Why Should You Shop for Mom at a Thrift Shop?

It's the month of Mother's Day and what better place to shop than one of our two thrift stores?  People don't always think to buy gifts at thrift stores, but both The Shops at The Caring Place and Second Helping are actually becoming a bit more known for gift purchases.  When you consider that we carry vases, antiques, pottery, collectibles, wall art, frames, books, purses, jewelry and pretty much anything a Mom could want, it actually makes sense!

What About the Community Benefit?

When donating to and shopping for items at Second Helping and The Shops at The Caring Place, you are also helping to fund programs and services that help our community.   Sales from both stores MORE than cover the operating costs at The Caring Place.  This means when you make a financial contribution, 100% of it directly impacts neighbors in need.  Where should you shop?

The Shops at The Caring Place
2000 Railroad Avenue | Monday-Saturday, 9am-4pm | Thursdays until 7pm

Second Helping
3700 Williams Drive | Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm

Let's Talk about Second Helping...

Second Helping's 1 Year Anniversary is Here!

We have just reached the 1 year anniversary of our second thrift store called Second Helping.  Have you been yet?  Don't let the facade fool you.  Inside the cozy home set back at 3700 Williams Drive is a charming shop filled with antiques, collectibles, furniture, decor, art, unique pieces and items for the hobbyist.  It's definitely a space worthy or browsing and maybe even picking up a gift or two.

Will an Anniversary Sale bring you in to explore?  Second Helping will have a Buy One, Get One Sale on wall art and lamps from May 14th-19th to celebrate!  And don't forget to join them on May 15th for ' Lemonade on the Porch' all day!

Who Does the Makeovers at Second Helping?

One thing we get a lot of questions about is, who does all the remodeling and rearranging, particularly at Second Helping?  We clearly have some amazing staff that guide the work, but you might be surprised to know that we have volunteers who have a keen eye for decor and make sure Second Helping is a show-stopper kind of shop.

Whether they are setting up the rooms, organizing merchandise or adding a creative flair, our volunteers often lead the way.  We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group at both stores to handle all of our merchandise.

During the month of April, Manager Tracy Tripulas at Second Helping wanted to be sure we recognize several volunteers at Second Helping that did a wonderful makeover in the linen room.  Thanks Gabrielle Madison, Carol Wilkins, Candace Leslie, Mary McIntyre & Cathy Slobod.  Go check it out!

Sometimes volunteering at The Caring Place means getting an education too.  Read about how one Southwestern University student interns at The Caring Place as part of her degree program.  College students: Don't worry, no internship is needed to volunteer here, and you may walk away with more skills than you thought.  Volunteering is a free and meaningful way to enhance skills for your future endeavors.  Something to think about...
