While the museum is closed temporarily to support Maryland’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 you can still see the museum spaces with our virtual tour!



















#GivingTuesdayNow
Like many other businesses around the world, museums and cultural institutions are pivoting quickly to offer services and programs online in an era of social distancing. The BMI’s education team has been working creatively to bring new learning opportunities to virtual visitors on our Visit From Home webpage . Museum educators have recorded audio tours of galleries that explore the canning, transportation, and print industries. Our Wee Workers preschool program continues uninterrupted--virtually--as museum teacher Gayle Travis-Keene and her puppet Chickenteague bring industry-themes stories and make-at-home crafts to our youngest visitors on the BMI’s Facebook each Tuesday morning. All of our online content is offered at no charge, from crosswords and trivia quizzes, to audio tours and storytelling. 

May 5 is #GivingTuesdayNow, an international day of thanks. The BMI is sharing posts all day long on Instagram and Facebook to thank YOU, the supporters, partners, volunteers, and staff who keep the BMI working, our mission strong, and our communities a better place to live and work.

2020 BMI Farmers' Market
On Saturday, May 16, the BMI’s annual Farmers’ Market will kick-off its 11th season. 

Local farmers and small businesses need our support now more than ever. Join us each Saturday for fresh produce, local meat and eggs, oven-fresh bread and sweets, bright flowers, tasty ready-to-eat treats, and artisan items. 

Please note that If the museum remains closed in compliance with the Governor's mandates and MedStar Health’s COVID-19 testing tent continues in the museum’s pavilion, the market will take place just down the block from the museum in the parking lot next to Little Havana, 1321 Key Highway.

Building a Community Collection...From Home
The Bethlehem Steel Legacy Project helps preserve the stories of Baltimore’s proud steel community. Now there’s a new way to get involved online. If you have Bethlehem Steel or Sparrows Point items at home, we invite you to share them virtually and help us build our community collection. BMI Virtual Book Club

Bibliophiles and history lovers are invited to join in an online discussion of “Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World” by Mark Kurlansky. Discussion of this 1999 nonfiction bestseller will be led by BMI's archives volunteer, Susan Tucker.
 
Digital copies of the book are available at the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Baltimore. County. Public Library as well as through Kindle and Audiobook .

While the museum remains closed in compliance with state directives, our entire staff is still being productive, and we have been able to continue to pay all employees, including part-time staff. Spring is normally our busiest time of year, with the museum packed with children on school field trips, the evenings filled with corporate receptions and nonprofit events, and weekends filled with weddings. If you’d like to support the museum, consider buying a membership and visit us when the museum opens back up ! 

And of course, donations are always welcome. Museums are a vital part of our city and our economy, and we want to make sure we are here to share Baltimore’s industrial history with generations to come!
