As May arrives at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, we take a moment both to savor the conclusion of another academic year and to welcome the beginning of the summer season. It is with deep gratitude that the Museum recognizes the tremendous contributions made by each of our student interns—achievements reflected in this month’s “Intern Round Up” article. We also look forward with excitement to the opening of the first of four summer exhibitions, each one exploring aspects of art in Maine in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Enjoy an exclusive interview with artist Ann Craven, whose exhibition Ann Craven | Painted Time: Moons (Laboratory) opens on May 22nd—just in time for graduation! And, on that note, we offer our heartiest congratulations to the students from the Class of 2025 as they prepare for Commencement and to take the world by storm.

We look forward to seeing you at the Museum!

This Month the Museum Will Open Ann Craven | Painted Time: Moons (Laboratory)

In conjunction with the upcoming exhibition Ann Craven | Painted Time: Moons (Laboratory), co-director Anne Collins Goodyear interviews artist Ann Craven. The interview was conducted one day before the artist completed her move out of her Harlem studio, a space she had occupied for twenty-five years, and the place where her “laboratory” of paintings of the Moon first took shape.
