“Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family.
Through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom.
At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit.
By water and your Word you claim us as your own children,
making us heirs of your promise and servants of all.”
--Thanksgiving for Baptism, Evangelical Lutheran Worship, page 97
| |
When did you last consider your baptism as a matter of life and death? Holy Baptism, as a sacrament of the church, communicates God’s grace through the tangible, earthly element of water, making each person one with the Body of Christ and making us siblings of one another. We are connected to God and to our ancestors in the faith not by the blood of inheritance but by water and God’s Word.

The Big Ask - May
Deodorant and Bar Soap.
Gethsemane has partnered with St. Anthony's and Isaiah 58 to provide them with food and non-food items. The non-food items are particularly important as these are not covered by food stamps.
These donations can be placed in the wooden cabinets at the end of the hallway leading into the narthex.
Coffee and Conversation: Enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a bite to eat with Isaiah 58 Ministries Executive Director, Rev. Brenda Booth. Hear first-hand about the current status of our ministry at 2149 South Grand Blvd, and catch a glimpse of our exciting plans for the future.
The final date is: Monday, May 5th at 1:30pm.
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, ask questions, and learn how you can be part of our journey. Use the link below to reserve a spot at one of the upcoming four Coffee & Conversations. You may register yourself and one other person.

| Congratulations to the Communion Class Kids! | | |
On Sunday, April 13th, the following joined in sharing the meal of holy communion: Beau, Myles, Ulysses (Sully), Yeats, and Fynnigan.
In the sacrament of holy baptism, we are welcomed into the body of Christ and sent to share in the mission of God. In the sacrament of holy communion, God unites us in Jesus Christ and nourishes us for that mission. Living among God’s faithful people, we are strengthened by God’s word and this holy supper to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.
Special thanks to Natalie for assisting with baking the Communion bread!

Little Free Pantry
Thank you for your continued support of Gethsemane's Little Free Pantry!
The Little Free Pantry Team is still requesting more items for the comfort cabinet - wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pads, etc. and would like to see more pasta sauce, cans of soup, pasta, and cereal.
The food pantry is especially in need of the following items: macaroni and cheese, shelf stable milk, and cereal.
All items can be placed in the cart located in the hallway next to the mailboxes.
Love to shop? The Social Action Team buys in bulk to supply the Little Free Pantry and get the most out of folks' financial donations to the Pantry fund. But not all of our thrifty volunteers have a way to get that 50-pack of Vienna Sausages from the store to the church basement. Would you be our shopping buddy? We'd let you know what's needed and where it's cheapest, and you'd place and/or pick up the order (covered by the Pantry fund) and bring it to church whenever you usually come. Even occasional help is great! Email leahjmorrell@gmail.com for more info.

Dear Gethsemane,
I wanted to take this time to offer my utmost thanks and boundless gratitude to all of you for showing such love, compassion, and prayer at a time when I was in desperate wonting and need.
Blessed does not come close to how I feel when I think of the time you allowed for me to get back on my feet, regroup, and do what I needed to do for my own physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Great progress has been made this month and my current medical trajectory ensures my health will continue on an even path.
I am so grateful to Amy Crousore for leading the music this month and to Thomas Morrell of the handbell choir. I would be remiss not to include them in my effusive praise and gratitude. They kept music alive and allowed voices to praise.
You have displayed why Gethsemane is what it is: a place where the message and mission of Christ TRULY dwells and lives. The Gethsemane way.
As a musician, missing Holy Week is tragic at best. I am so thankful to Pastor Cheryl for checking in on me daily during that time, even when she had so much to do herself. She made me feel not alone during that precious time. Again, how blessed am I?!
Please be assured of my continued loyalty to a place that has treated me with kindness, openness, and compassion. God truly dwells within these walls and the hearts of all who call Gethsemane home.
In gratitude,
Aria

Keys to Joy: Welcoming New Instruments to Our Church Family!
Get ready to make a joyful noise! We are absolutely thrilled to announce the arrival of not one, but two beautiful new instruments that will enrich our worship and fellowship: a stunning new baby grand piano and a versatile Clavinova!
For years, our faithful piano has served us well, filling our sanctuary with melodies of praise and
comfort. However, time and countless hymns have taken their toll. Thanks to the generous contributions of many within our congregation, we have been blessed with a magnificent new acoustic piano. Its rich tones and responsive touch will undoubtedly elevate our musical offerings during services, choir rehearsals, and special events for years to come. Imagine the soaring sounds during our favorite hymns and the delicate accompaniment during moments of reflection – this new instrument will truly be a gift to our spiritual life together.
But the musical blessings don't stop there! We have also welcomed a state-of-the-art Clavinova into our church family. This digital piano offers incredible versatility, providing a range of instrumental sounds and features that will enhance various ministries. From contemporary worship music to gentle choir accompaniment music, the Clavinova opens up exciting new possibilities. These new instruments are more than just additions to our physical space; they are tools that will help us connect with God and with each other on a deeper level. Music has a unique power to stir our souls, express our faith, and create a sense of unity within our community.
| | the new baby grand in the Sanctuary | the Clavinova in the choir loft | |
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this dream a reality.
Your generosity and love for our church have made these wonderful additions possible.
We invite you to join us in celebrating these new instruments! Be sure to listen for their beautiful sounds during upcoming services and events. We also encourage anyone interested in learningto play or share their musical talents to reach out to Amy or Aria
Let us make a joyful sound to the Lord!

Gethsemane's Garden Grows!
Thank you to everyone who came to help plant the ReLeaf trees on Saturday, April 26th.
Eight trees and five bushes were planted on Gethsemane's south lawn. This is one step in the process to earn a gold level status from the "Bring Conservation Home" program.
There was an adult forum earlier this year explaining the process. If you have any questions, please reach out to Eve Cooney.
