Achieving their Dreams:
Latino College Access Club Breaks Down Barriers for Students
| |
In 2023, students and their families met with Dr. Becerra (center), President of Marymount University.
|
When APAH and the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN) partnered in the fall of 2022 to launch the Latino College Access Club, there was one goal in mind:
Provide Latino students with information, expert advice, and ongoing support to help them pursue higher education, trade school, or another goal beyond secondary education.
Breaking down barriers that students face is difficult; but with caring and knowledgeable partners like Lyons Sanchezconcha of VALHEN and Dr. Becerra, President of Marymount University, students can make their educational dreams a reality.

Mitch Crispell, Director of Real Estate at APAH, was recently selected to serve on an Urban Land Institute (ULI) Technical Assistance Panel (TAP).
The panel issued recommendations for the future of the Grant Building, a deteriorating, 100-year-old federal building in Washington D.C. The building is co-located on the campus of the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) and is an important element of D.C.’s cultural landscape.
Mitch assessed the financial feasibility of potential options and provided a case study of APAH’s Terwilliger Place, which maintains a 50% veteran preference. At conclusion, the panel recommended rehabilitating the Grant Building to create affordable housing for veterans.

Construction Update:
The Arna Valley View and Marbella Rehab Project
| |
|
Construction is well underway at APAH’s Marbella and Arna Valley View apartments in Arlington. The rehabilitation project will upgrade and preserve the long-term affordability of 163 units and renovate common areas for residents.
“APAH is proud to reinvest in our communities, especially those that are aging,” says Mike Chiappa, Senior VP of Real Estate. “Of course, residents enjoy newly-renovated homes and upgraded community spaces, plus the project ensures that we can continue to provide affordable homes in the long run.”

It's Mental Health Awareness Month!
|
Health and Wellness is a key pillar of APAH’s resident services model, and we have been expanding mental health support for residents in a variety of ways.
From free psychotherapy sessions with art therapist, Hannah Bowen, to Kokedama workshops, a form of Japanese garden art, programs have been overwhelmingly well-received.
