Your monthly news & updates
As we cope with the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, we must remember our neighbors who have been affected by shutdowns and loss/reduction of employment. Even as Manatee County businesses slowly begin to reopen and a sense of normalcy returns, thousands of children, families, and seniors have had and will continue to have limited access to food and provisions, depriving them of nutrition, health, and well-being.

The consequences of the pandemic on businesses and individual families is substantial, making food accessibility more critical than ever before. Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee has been diligently working to bridge the gap for those in need.

  • More than 120,000 meals have been distributed directly to families through our Food4Families program.
  • In April alone, more than 20,000 meals were delivered to seniors through our Home-delivered Meals program.
  • The Food Bank of Manatee increased food distribution by 35% to pantries, soup kitchens, and social service agencies between March and April 2020.
  • Daily requests for assistance from food-insecure residents have doubled.

Volunteer Spotlight
The response from the community to volunteer at Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee has been tremendous! Though we have been limited to the amount of volunteers we have capacity for due to CDC guidelines, we have been fortunate to have a troop of volunteers from Bayside Community Church assembled to guarantee families in Manatee County get the crucial nutrition they need.

We are beyond grateful for these volunteers, whose diligent efforts have made it possible to pack and distribute weekly Food4Families bags during reduced operations due to COVID-19. To date, 8,576 bags have made it into the community That's more than 120,000 breakfasts, lunches, and dinners providing essential nourishment for Manatee County residents!
Thank you Bayside Community Church Volunteers for having the heart to bring hope to the community and helping us #FeedManatee!
