NEW- ONLINE Blue Spruce Club for Ages 3+
(All ages welcome; program is intended for Preschool - Gr.2 age range)

Blue Spruce Club is a program from the Forest of Reading, just like our popular Silver Birch Reading Club. Children ages 3 and up choose to “read” at least 5/10 of the picture books on the book list for the club (there is a video of each book, read by the author). All books are written by Canadian authors and are new and engaging titles. At the end of the program, children vote for their favourite title to make that Canadian author famous! During the program we send you a “passport” where your child can “rate” each book and book related activities. Take a photo of your child's completed “work” each time they do an activity and every time you do so Kathleen will put your child's name in a prize draw to be done at the end of the program. Children’s work will be showcased on social media. A voting link will be sent to each child at the end of the program (May 27 th ).

Silver Birch Club Update

We will be wrapping up our club by the last week of May. Children are encouraged to keep up their book logs and also get their name in the Visa gift card draw by commenting and posting on the online platform. To end the program off, we will be hosting three ONLINE Silver Birch games. Children can choose to play in one or all of the games. Voting day will be May 27 th and all registered participants will be send ballots online. Need help getting on the book logs or online platform? Email Kathleen: kcharlton@mypubliclibrary.ca

What's Emily Reading Right Now?
With most of us spending more time at home, do you find you're playing more video games? Don't worry, you're not online as much as the characters of Ready Player One . The book by Ernest Cline that was the basis for the popular movie of the same name, Ready Player One takes place in the not too distant future. Humanity is crumbling, but everyone can escape inside the OASIS, a virtual online world where you can be whoever you want to be. Inside, players are on the hunt for the ultimate video game "Easter Egg" - the winner who finds it will earn billions and go down in history. Follow Wade Watts, a teenager obsessed with the hunt as he grapples with the danger inside the OASIS - and the real world he is trying to escape from.
Absolutely packed with 80s references, twists, and turns, this is a fun book no matter what your age. If you loved the movie, scavenger hunts, or video games, give this book a try.
