Rise in Scam Attempts
Social engineering is the act of tricking someone into divulging information or taking action, usually through technology by taking advantage of a potential victim’s natural tendencies and emotional reactions. Social engineering techniques come in many forms, but one of the most common ways to manipulate a person is via phishing email or a phone call. A malicious hacker could pose as one of your email contacts and ask for your personal information. Or an email aligning to your interests that seemingly comes from a store you frequent could allow a hacker access to your bank account. One click in that email and a cybercriminal has instant access to all kinds of data about you from the operating system you use, even your social security number.
If you receive a call or email from a government agency demanding you pay any fines or fees, don’t reply immediately. Take time to research. Call the published number for that agency first to ensure the demand is legitimate.
TCA is here to help.

Submit Comments on Rules Establishing BHEC before May 22
The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) will become fully operational on September 1, 2020. All behavioral health licensing boards will be housed at BHEC which will be responsible for the administrative management of each board, including processing licenses, managing complaints, and overall operations.
The proposed rules are extensive because they establish all functions for a brand new state agency. It is essential that these rules be carefully vetted to ensure they align with the legislative intent of HB 1501 and preserve the authority of each independent licensing board housed at BHEC.
The
proposed rules were published in the April 24, 2020 issue of the Texas Register.
How to Comment
- Comments must be submitted no later than May 22, 2020
- Email to open.records@tsbep.texas.gov
- Subject line: Comments on Proposed Rules 22TAC Chapter 881.
