Now it is back to the house for concurrence. Thank you to everyone who advocated for this bill, which will create the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC).

Did you know we had more than 250 counseling professionals attend our Advocacy days this year? Our April event was our most highly attended Advocacy day to date! TCA was recognized by legislators at all three of our Advocacy days. See our April and May Recognitions below.

Summertime, and the Wellness is Easy
Brought to you by TCA Wellness Committee Co-Chair, Betty White

As summer approaches, it is time to begin planning how you will take advantage of the many opportunities available to enhance your personal wellness journey. Texas provides a variety of activities that allow us to take our wellness to a whole new level.

Consider taking a mindfulness walk through one of our great state parks . You can stroll through terrain ranging from trails shaded by live oaks festooned with Spanish moss or look out over the seemingly endless horizon of the high desert. Perhaps you prefer sand between your toes and the roar of the surf, or the smell of pines in the sun. Whatever your preference, time spent in nature has been proven to improve our wellness.

As you work on your physical wellness, expand your horizons. Summer is a great time to take up a new sport, or spend a few of the longer daylight hours working on an old one. Gardening, running, walking, biking, dancing, team sports, even chasing grandchildren - the important thing is finding a form of exercise that feels like play. Your body is designed to move, and your wellness depends upon it.

Summer is also a great time to take advantage of the many healthy fruits and vegetables that are in season. Saunter through a local farmer’s market and allow your senses to be filled with sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures.

Just remember, another important part of wellness is moderation. Summer often tempts us to over-plan and try to have too much fun. Plan carefully, pace yourself, and you will emerge from summer refreshed and ready to take on anything.
