We hope we have been a helpful resource for you and your families, especially during this last year!

Budgets are tight due to COVID-19. To ensure future funding for our amazing programs and services, please consider sending one of our new postcards to tell your state legislators or local officials why you are thankful for your local library!

Let them know how libraries have stepped up and provided community-based services that you enjoy whether it is simply the ability to check out books and movies or whether you enjoy our programming from craft kits to storytime to everything in between! Or whether the internet, fax service, or reference help made a difference in your life. We need your help now more than ever to toot our horn and let our funding representatives know that libraries matter to you.

Postcards are available at the check out desk, along with names and addresses for state legislators and local officials. You can also click the link below to view our list of legislators.

Convert your old VHS tapes to DVD or digital files!
May 10 - 20, 2021
The library will have access to a VHS converter from May 10 - 20. This machine will convert your old VHS tapes to DVD or digital files onto a flash drive for a small fee. DVDs cost .25 cents. Flash drives cost $2.50.

This conversion process happens in real time and has a 2 hour maximum record time so longer videos will have to be broken up into multiple DVDs or flash drives. The real time aspect of the recording means that it actually takes 2 hours to record a 2 hour video.

Contact the library for more information by calling (920) 398-3434..

Try our improved Internet! Faster download and upload speeds, and better access in library courtyard!
silver-keyboard.jpg
Thanks to a generous $1,700 donation from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation’s Basic Needs of Green Lake County Grant, the Markesan Public Library was able to install an outside (external) wireless access point to improve our outside signal and its strength. Just in time for upcoming spring and summer weather, patrons can now enjoy our courtyard while enjoying improved free public internet!

Along with the wireless access point, the library also was recently upgraded to faster download and upload speeds through CARES funds. (This program was funded in part with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services which administers the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)). Tired of slow internet speeds? Get downloading and uploading at your local library today!

Don’t forget about the library’s wonderful databases free with your library card like Hoopla for streaming movies and Libby for e-books, downloadable audio books, and digital magazines. We also subscribe to Gale Universities where patrons can take life-long learning classes like Conversational Spanish, or Basic Guitar, or Microsoft Excel, for example. Ask a librarian for more information or visit our website: www.markesanlibrary.org.
Despite a challenging COVID year, the Markesan Public Library continues on its quest to be better than ever by updating our building and expanding our offerings. We are organizing a fundraiser for our children's area -The Chair Affair - where local artists decorate doanted chairs however they like, and then the chairs are put up for an auction which culminates during June Dairy Days.

All proceeds from the 2021 Chair Affair will go towards a much-needed refresh of the Children’s Area. We are busy working on ideas on how to make the children’s area more fun and functional from paint, to shelves, to toys, to books. And we are going to need funds to make those dreams come true.

We are extremely grateful to all the chair artists who have put it in amazing amounts of time and effort into their chairs!!

We hope you'll consider being a part of this effort to make our children's area better and brighter by bidding on one of these fantastic works of art! Stop by the library during the Reveal Party on Friday, May 21 @ 6:00 pm to meet the artists in person, or anytime afterwards to place bids on your favorite chairs.

The Chair Affair auction will conclude during June Dairy Days (Saturday, June 12, 2021).
