Craig Sanphy in Recital, April 29

Concord native and Concord Community Music School alumnus Craig Sanphy, an accomplished tenor, will return to the Music School for a free public recital on Sunday, April 29, at 7:30pm. Sanphy will be accompanied by Kathryn Southworth on piano.

Fans of musical theatre won't want to miss Sanphy's performance, which will focus on show tunes, with a style described as "blow-the-house-down kind of singing!" Sanphy will perform selections from Dear Evan Hansen, Les Miserables, Bridges of Madison County, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and other Broadway hits. Sanphy has made a career of music, teaching voice, performing as a featured classical soloist in a variety of music festivals and symphonies, as well as playing lead roles and dancing in musical theatre productions across the country.

Bach's Lunches, May 3 & 10: Jazz Piano & Music of Brazil and Cuba
Concord Community Music School presents two free Bach's Lunch programs in May: a lecture on the evolution of the jazz piano trio, and a jazz piano trio playing a concert of Latin American music.
On Thursday, May 3, Eric Klaxton (above) lectures on the topic of "The Jazz Piano Trio from Jelly Roll Morton to Today." Heavily influenced by Ragtime music, it is no surprise the piano is an integral part of the music we call Jazz. From Jelly Roll Morton to The Bad Plus, Klaxton will investigate, with musical examples, the long tradition of jazz pianists and their varied approaches to playing in a trio setting.
The following week, on Thursday, May 10, a trio of Music School faculty members - Tom Robinson (jazz piano, saxophone), Scott Kiefner (bass), and Tim Gilmore (percussion) - performs a concert entitled "The Latin Touch: Music of Brazil and Cuba." The combination of jazz improvisation with the rhythms of Latin America opened up an entire genre of music. This lively jazz trio celebrates this fusion of influences with music from Brazil, Cuba and more. Come enjoy the fiery dance rhythms of Cuba as well as the beautiful harmonic complexities of Brazil all within the free improvisatory framework of Jazz.

Bach's Lunch programs are free and open to the public, and take place from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the first and second Thursdays of each month, November through May, in the Music School's Recital Hall, 23 Wall Street, downtown Concord.

The Bach's Lunch Series is sponsored by The Timothy and Abigail B. Walker Lecture Fund and The Couch Trusts; TD Wealth Management, NA; Trustee.
