While SRP is for readers of ALL ages, we like to kick off the Children's-side reading program in extra-special summertime style. :) Join us on Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. here at the Library, for a CRITTER VISIT from Exotics R Us. Kiddos can meet a number of animals in person, possibly including: an armadillo, a chinchilla, a ring-tailed cat, a leopard tortoise, a fennec fox, or even a Flemish giant!

May craftiness for kids at NKCPL: Recycled Owl Collages and Torn Paper Cactuses!
We've got a couple of fun art programs coming up in the Children's department this month: we're making sweet recycled paper owls and torn paper cactuses (cacti??). Read on for more--and click on the links below to register!

Join us for this fun DIY owl collage. We'll use recycled paper and other supplies to make our owls. Can't wait to see you there! It will be a hoot!

Wed, May 31 @ 2 p.m.
Join us a fun afternoon making some cactus art. We'll use recycled torn paper to create the cactus shape and other decorations.

Join us for a fun craft using recycled plastic bottles! You'll choose the animal you want to create, then we'll draw the animal onto your bottle. Then we will add paint and details. Finally, once everything is dry, we'll add a plant! Best for ages 8 and up.

Fri, June 9 @ 10 a.m.
You love Bluey. You know it; we know it. That's why we're giving you...A Morning with Bluey! Join us for activities and crafts inspired by Bluey, Bingo, Mum, and Dad.

Turn yourself into a Blue Heeler dog by making a Heeler Headband, and set up a stuffed animal zoo and practice your tour guide skills. Keep the balloons from hitting the ground with a game of Keepy Uppy, and complete the Obstacle Training Course with Dad. It'll be tons of fun and we can’t wait to see you!

At this messy art program, we'll place paint around the edge of our paper and then use a squeegee or other scraper to drag the paint across. It creates a cool effect! We can then add different layers of color and repeat the process. It should be a great time but we will probably get a little messy!

The whole family is invited for a special sing-along viewing of Disney's Encanto in the Storytime room. Popcorn is available during the movie--but don't talk about Bruno! Join us for this exceptional, fantastical, and magical event on Friday, June 16. Showtime is at 2 p.m.

Join us and make your own race car! Everyone will get their own race car to decorate--and we'll have a race track to test out your creations!

Do you love all things Dog Man? Come to the library and join us for a supa awesome party featuring Dave Pilkey's Dog Man. We'll test your knowledge with trivia, build our own 80HD robots, create a flip-o-ramma, fight the Evil Weenies, and use Petey's shrink ray to create shrunken art. Hope you can be there!

What can you do with an egg carton? Join us for an open ended craft, where we'll take some recycled egg cartons and turn them into something new! We'll provide paint, markers, googly eyes, and other craft supplies to create your recycled art. You bring the creativity! 

Fri, June 30 @ 2 p.m.
Join us in the grass in front of the library for a Tie Dye Party! We'll provide the dyes and a canvas bag to tie dye. If you want to bring an additional item to dye, you may--just make sure it's 100% cotton and pre-washed. We'll have gloves for use and washing instructions for after. All items must be taken home with you at the end of the event. We're DYE-ING to see what you create!

Hey families! Join us this summer for Monday Storytime in the Park!

This special summertime series starts May 15 and runs through mid-August. Weather permitting, we'll meet in the Gazebo by the tennis courts on Mondays at 10 a.m. We'll read some stories, sing some songs, and do some different activities. Hey young learners! Join us for STEM Club and STEM Club JR. on Saturday, May 20! This month's topics? Sink or Float: Titanic Edition for STEM Club (kids K-5th grade) and Science of the Water for STEM Jr. kiddos (or preschoolers).

Announcing our First Annual Tiny Art Show! Related: Please bring us your tiny art! :)
Feeling creative? Grab a tiny canvas from the Main desk starting in late May, and make a little piece of art for display at our First Annual Summer Tiny Art Show! This show is for participants of ALL ages, and you can any creative media you want: paint, pen/ink, fibers, photography, etc. Canvases will be displayed in the Library through August!
Come for the stories, stay for crafts + play!
Join us on Tuesdays @ 5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays @ 10 a.m. for Pre-k Storytime! These sessions include read-aloud stories, songs/movement, and a super-simple craft/activity. If you want, plan to stay after the Wednesday Storytime for some Stay-and-Play time with LEGOS/Duplos.

Come sew! Offering classes + by appt usage!
Want to make something new? Come sew with us! This month, we've got three sewing classes for adults on the docket, all taught by instructor Patty Ibarra.

Wed, May 3 from 6-9 pm
We're continuing work on (and maybe/hopefully finishing??) our Flag Block quilts, which we started on April 19. Tonight, we'll put those quilt blocks together and add border/background. Our instructor Patty's using grey, but you can bring your own border fabric to tie your piece together!

Wed, May 17 from 6-9 pm
Just in time for summer, we're making a shoulder bag with pockets! Bring your favorite fabric for this one: 1.5 yd for the outside of the bag, plus 1 yd for the lining. With instructor Patty Ibarra.

Thurs, May 18 from 10-1
Join us for an intro class to our Janome sewing machine! Learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine, and get started with some basic stitching. Have a work in progress? This session is also an Open Sew, so feel free to bring your project and get some stitching done! With instructor Patty Ibarra.
