Bike Month 2021 is here and this year’s virtual events will offer a variety of ways to celebrate and participate even without in-person events. There are plenty of fun activities and ways to engage safely with your community by bicycle! Get your wheels out, put on your mask, and roll through the month using the Bike Month calendar and our daily posts on GoActiveLB’s social media pages Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The following are just a few of highlights you can look forward to in May!
Check Out What's Happening
National Bike to School Day
With the Long Beach Unified School District transitioning learning back into the classroom, on Wednesday, May 5, students and their parents are encouraged to leave the car at home and bike to school instead.
National Bike to Work Day
Residents and employees are encouraged to bike to work on Thursday, May 20. Even if you are still commuting to your couch or home office, take a 30-minute exercise break and bike throughout your neighborhood at lunch.
Self-Guided Bike Routes
Discover some of Long Beach’s hidden outdoor murals and great historical architecture with GoActiveLB’s self-guided tours. This year, virtual art routes of Retro Row, Downtown and the Broadway area, as well as the historical architectural route through Bixby Knolls, will be available on the GoActiveLB’s social media accounts. These routes are designed for all ages and skill levels and may be used whenever your next adventure arises.
Bikes of Long Beach
Long Beach is considered a top bike-friendly city, so each week, GoActiveLB will highlight the story of a local bicyclist and their bike. Follow along to find out about local bicycling culture through each rider’s lens and become inspired to forge your own bicycling style.
