AIDS Education Month 2018
June 2018 is Philadelphia FIGHT 's 24th Annual AIDS Education Month (AEM) ! AEM is a series of events to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and an opportunity for the Philadelphia community to celebrate and discuss advances in HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, advocacy, and policy. Catherine Freeland, MPH will give a presentation on hepatitis B and HIV co-infection with one of the #justB storytellers, Jason . Registration is open and can be found here . May's featured video   shares Alan's story. Many of Alan’s immediate family members passed away due to liver cancer, but it wasn’t until Alan himself became ill that the family realized the role hepatitis B played in these deaths. Alan talks about how stigma prevents open discussion about the virus and raises questions about the medical community’s failure to adequately address hepatitis B. He worries that continued silence will prevent others from knowing the same joy he experiences in his life. His story is available in English and with Mandarin subtitles .
During 2018, we are highlighting a unique patient story each month. Our #justB Storytelling Campaign is a national effort to bring individuals affected by hepatitis B to share their stories to shed light on this serious disease, decrease stigma, discrimination, and promote the importance of testing and treatment for hepatitis B. If you want to host a screening of the videos, we can help!
