Stay Safe Around Electricity

May is National Electrical Safety Month. Here are some tips to help you stay safe around electricity all year long:

• Only use extension cords on a temporary basis.
• Inspect cords for damage or frays before use.
• Do not overload extension cords.
• Keep extension cords away from water on the ground.
• Watch for overhead power lines when using a ladder, working on roofs or trees, or carrying long tools.
• Always stay away from downed power lines.
• Use outlet covers to keep kids safe around electrical outlets.

Help Keep Kids Safe Around Electricity

Here are a few tips that can help keep kids safe around electricity and electrical equipment.

• Stay away from substations, utility poles, transformer boxes, and other electrical equipment.
• Always stay away from downed power lines.
• Never climb trees that are near power lines.
• Don't fly kites, drones, or other objects near power lines.

Mulching, Tree Trimming Helps Wildfire Mitigation

Wildfire mitigation is an emerging priority in our industry. We are taking steps to combat the threat of wildfires in Columbia County.

Our Vegetation Management Operator mulches underneath and around power lines throughout our service territory to help remove fuel sources for fires.

Another component of our vegetation management strategy is tree trimming. We systematically remove trees and branches encroaching on power lines.

Heat Pumps Can Also Keep You Cool

You can keep your home comfortable all year long with a heat pump. These machines can provide air conditioning capabilities in the summer in addition to working like a furnace in the winter.

Heat pumps distribute cool air quietly and evenly, making your home more comfortable.

Ductless systems target certain zones of your home.

We offer rebates for the installation of ducted central system heat pumps and for ductless systems. To qualify, you must heat your home with electricity.

It's never too early to submit your photos for our annual PUD Calendar Photo Contest.

Our calendar features horizontal photos depicting the scenic beauty of Columbia County. Vertical photos will not be accepted.

We like to include photos illustrating each of the seasons throughout the year. Upload pictures you have taken within Columbia County to enter the contest.

Help Save a Life by Donating Blood on June 25

We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to host our quarterly blood drive on Thursday, June 25.

Blood collected by the Red Cross helps millions of patients in more than 2,500 hospitals and other facilities across the country.

You can help by signing up to donate. This drive will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
