WarmLine Connections / May 2022
Dear families,

Happy May as we prepare to celebrate the mom's in our lives this month!

In this May edition, we share self-care tips for mom's, dad's and all the caretakers who care tirelessly for us all year-round. It's also a great time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather with ideas for getting outdoors and summer planning. How about getting your hands dirty with a new gardening project and enjoy the benefits of gardening?  Many families may also be considering Extended School Year (ESY) services for their student(s) this summer. Check out our upcoming May IEP trainings and resource info to learn more about ESY.

Enjoy the spring time!

Benefits of Gardening
"In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt." - Margaret Atwood, Bluebeard's Egg

Spring is in full bloom here in Sacramento; and while many of us might be sneezing more than we care to, the delights that come with warmer weather are plentiful. The sights, smells, sounds and textures of Spring await us at every turn. Trees are full and green, yards and parks are brimming with color; there is more and better produce; and it feels great to be outdoors again!

What better way to experience Spring than to channel your inner green thumb at gardening? Gardening is accessible, fun, and inexpensive to get into. Gardens come in many forms, shapes, and sizes and could be as small as a tiny potted plant! Gardening teaches patience, provides a sense of accomplishment, and provides stimulation to all of the senses. Check out this article for some great tips to get started with your very own gardening project!

Self-Care Tips
"To be able to care for the people you love, you must first take care of yourself. It’s like the advice we’re given on airplanes: put on your own oxygen mask before trying to help someone else with theirs. Taking care of yourself is a valid goal on its own, and it helps you support the people you love." NAMI.org
