"Rather than trying to bring the person with dementia back to reality, why not try to enter their reality....."
#AlzheimersAwareness
We would like to highlight our very dear friend, Gay Benshimol , and share with you why we think she is such a wonderful person and a great asset to our team!
She is always upbeat and ready to have a good time. Her smile lights up the room! She is kind and respectful with everyone and loves to spread happiness through her music. Back in the day, she was a camp counselor so singing around a campfire is second nature to Gay. Each month she starts us off with a theme...songs of the season, the weather, or a holiday! She likes asking for requests so people can sing along to the songs they love! She brings maracas and sticks so we can play along with her! She plays 'Name that Tune', 'Stump the Guitarist' and asks musical trivia questions!! For every correct answer, she tosses a mini candy bar our way!!
She donates her time every month, and has been with us for a couple years now. She continues to put lots of smiles on our faces every time she visits. And if you ask Gay, she loves it as much as we do! We are so lucky to have such a thoughtful and generous person entertain us at A Place to Start.
Thank you so much for your time and for sharing your love of music with us!!!
