Customer focus: MOCA-GA is on the move
By this time next year, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA-GA) will open the doors to its first permanent home – a stunning, 26,000-square-foot facility at the Goat Farm Arts Center in West Midtown Atlanta. The milestone is a transformative moment in the 25-year mission of MOCA-GA: Celebrating & preserving the work of Georgia’s contemporary (1940, forward) artists.
“Our upcoming move to the Goat Farm is so much more than just a change of address,” says Annette Cone-Skelton, artist, curator & MOCA-GA founder. “The new space will feature expansive galleries, a dedicated library and reading room, a rooftop venue, café, sculpture garden and improved archival facilities, allowing us to better serve artists, scholars and the public.”
She notes that the development is the culmination of years of planning and fundraising, including a significant $2 million contribution from the City of Atlanta, bringing MOCA-GA to 90% of its $16.4 million campaign goal. The museum connected with Hyperion Bank via its Board Chair, Philip Babb, with the bank providing one of the sources of lending toward the museum’s new home.
“It’s taken a diverse and generous village to bring us to the building of our first permanent home on land we own and during our celebratory 25th year,” Cone-Skelton says, “and we’re glad that team includes Hyperion, which has been responsive and enthusiastic, with a great understanding of our goals, processes and role in the community.”
Founded in 2000 by Cone-Skelton and CGR Advisors president David S. Golden, MOCA-GA sought to fill a gap in the state’s art scene by focusing exclusively on contemporary works by Georgia artists. Starting with a collection of 250 pieces, the museum has grown to house over 1,600 works, reflecting the rich diversity and talent of our state's artistic community – and the largest collection of Georgia art anywhere in the world.
“It was exciting to be at the December groundbreaking for MOCA-GA’s new home, and to be working with a small arts organization that knows how to have an impact far beyond its modest size and budget,” says Amy Ellis, Hyperion SVP & Senior Loan Officer. “It really underscores how community banks and nonprofits have similar values and missions: Serving and improving the community. And, in MOCA-GA’s case, that community is global.”
MOCA-GA’s current exhibition is Celebration: The Past Forward (Selected Acquisitions 2002-2012), through June 7. While you are there, check out the impressive model of the museum’s new facility.
“As we prepare for this dynamic new chapter, we’re excited about engaging a larger community in our mission to collect, preserve and showcase significant contemporary works by Georgia artists, fostering a vibrant dialogue between artists and the community,” Cone-Skelton says.
Stay connected with MOCA-GA via its website, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and in person – 75 Bennett Street, Atlanta, GA 30309 (Suite M1/downstairs). Of course, the museum always welcomes donations (individual + corporate/foundation), memberships and volunteers.

Neighborhood, customers, community banking…
Forbes Magazine recently proclaimed “Fishtown, Still America’s Hottest New Neighborhood,” and we couldn’t be prouder, as it is home territory for Hyperion Bank’s historic Philadelphia HQ.
Better still that the article included a shoutout to Hyperion friend & customer Kassis & Co.
