RVAR Board of Directors Spotlight

Join RVAR’s BOD in 2026

Are you ready to give back to the REALTOR® community? Do you have fresh ideas for change? Interested in a leadership role in RVAR?



RVAR's Board of Directors has announced the following leadership openings for 2026: President-elect, Vice President and 3 Director positions. The process for applying for a Director or Officer position is simple:

• The application period begins Friday, August 1st and ends on Wednesday, October 1^st
• All applicants must meet the following objective criteria:
• Must have served on an RVAR Committee, Work Group etc. within the previous 10 years;
• No Virginia Real Estate Board violation within the previous 2 years;
• No Code of Ethics violation within the previous 2 years.

Slated to continue their service on the 2026 Board will be: President Todd Wampler (Century 21-Wampler Realty); Immediate Past President Julie Kingery (Mountain to Lake Realty); and Directors Carla Evans (Wainwright & Co.); Thomas Fellers (MKB, REALTORS®); Todd McKee (Lichtenstein Rowan); and Stan Spiewak (BHHS Premier, REALTORS®).

Form Changes Coming July 1st

Several revisions to the RVAR standard forms library will ‘go live’ on Tuesday, July 1^st in ZipForms and SkySlope. Details and one or more training videos will be available prior to July 1^st.

Revisions are being made to the following forms:

•  Designated Agency Consent & Confirmation Agreement
•  Dual Agency Consent & Confirmation Agreement
•  Exclusive Right to Represent Buyer Agreement
•  Exclusive Right to Represent Seller Agreement
•  Non-Exclusive Right to Represent Buyer Agreement
•  Purchase Agreement
•  Standard Clauses Addendum
•  Plus updates to clauses in the Clause Manager

Our next Family Fun Night with the Salem Red Sox is scheduled for Thursday, August 7th.

Registration begins June 10th.

RVAR Golf Classic

The RVAR Golf Classic returns on Monday, September 8th at Roanoke Country Club.

Registration will begin in July.

RVAR Economic Summit

The RVAR is proud to announce our Economic Summit scheduled for Tuesday, October 14 at the Hotel Roanoke. Dr. Jessica Lautz, the Deputy Chief Economist and Vice President of Research at the National Association of REALTORS® will be on hand to discuss trends and analysis that will benefit your business.

We are also happy to announce that we will be partnering with our friends at the New River Valley Association of REALTORS® to bring you this event.

Put this on your must attend list! Registration for this event opens in July.

Check Your Listings for Common Errors 

Since January 1^st, 145 error reports have been submitted through FlexMLS. The most common errors / issues reported so far this year are:

60 = Wrong data (wrong schools, inaccurate address, taxes, style, #beds/baths, mapping, attached vs. detached, should be land listing)

31 = Wrong SQFT

26 = Photos (Listing agent sign in photo, missing front photo, photos not accurate portrayal of property) REMINDER: Photos submitted to the MLS must NOT show a yard sign or have any office or agent promotion. Also, one photo must show the front view of the property, which must be entered at the time the listing is entered into the MLS (though does not have to be the primary photo). For Land listings, the front view can be a street view, aerial or drone view or Lake view.

25 = Missing data (owner’s legal name, owner’s phone # when showing instructions are to call seller, directions, K/O timeframe, Other See Remarks with no explanation)

NAR Profile of Home Staging

NAR’s 2025 Profile of Home Staging shines a light on the positive impacts of staging including reduced time on the market and increased sales price.

Buyers often expect homes to look like they are staged on TV shows. The most common staged rooms are: living room 91%; primary bedroom 83% and dining room 69%.

VAR PMX Summer Update

VAR is offering a virtual class focused on the VRLTA updates needed to get ready for the July 1^st law changes. Though the class is virtual, you can ask questions LIVE to VAR’s legal team members plus earn two hours of Legal Updates CE. VAR is offering this class on three different dates:

June 11^th, 2:00-4:00PM

June 17^th, 10:0AM-Noon

July 15^th, 10:00AM-Noon

UPCOMING EDUCATION

Unsure about Insurance?: This class will explain how national catastrophes affect your rates. The class will also address pre-policy questions, insurance inspections (e.g., roofs, tree limbs etc.) and insurance for home improvements and/or changes. Shanna Ferguson (Holley Insurance) and Derek Wiley (Derek Wiley Insurance) are prepared to address these issues and answer your questions.

The Price is Right: This class will focus on setting the list price using a Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) based on (1) the FlexMLS method; (2) the CRS method; and (3) the REALTOR® Property Resource (RPR) method. Curtis Burchett and Beth Powell, both of MKB, REALTORS®, will demonstrate the use of each method.

VAR Virtual CE Class – Ethics and Risks of AI: VAR is offering live web events throughout the year. This one-hour course, Thursday, June 26^th, 10:00-11:00AM, will provide an overview of artificial intelligence (A.I.), how it is impacting the real estate industry and potential pitfalls to avoid when utilizing A.I. software. This course is approved for 1 hour of CE: Legal Updates. No PL. The cost for this course is $15.
