Graphing Practice for Early Learners
Do you have a ruler, or tape measure laying around? This can be a great tool for Early Learners! Once we start recognizing the importance and value of numbers we can start measuring the things in our world. Kids love to learn about things that are growing much like they grow, you can make a growth chart for the plants you grow too!
Every week, measure your plants, make a dot on the graph to represent your plant's height, and color in the squares beneath it.
For kids who find this to be a bit easier, learn together about all the life that helps support gardens and ecosystems. Here are some questions to help guide you
- What are some animals that we can find outside? Do we see any birds, squirrels, rabbits, or other animals?
- Are there other things outside that we can learn about? What about the insects and mushrooms? Other than the plants in our Garden, what plants live outside?
- What are some insects we know about? What are some mushrooms we've seen? What are some plants that are outside?
- What do those animals do outside? What do we see them eat, where do they like to make their nests and raise their young?
- Do those animals want what's in the garden? How can we keep them out without hurting them?
I encourage you learn about how insects, plants, animals, and fungi work together! It is easy to assume that something like fungi only break down things like wood, but many fungi attach themselves to root systems of plants and help them grow.
